The Indigenous Movement is an organization that focuses on raising awareness about indigenous rights through various initiatives. Through different means, we intend to inform and highlight about the richness of endangered cultures and revive the collective spirit to protect and defend them.

Indigenous Movement is cooking for a Benefit day, October 12th. A group of indigenous groups wants to make an event that will be named “Columbus day, nothing to celebrate but a lot to reflect DECOLONIZATION!” We will do a ceremony for all the Indigenous Peoples who died with the came of Columbus, also we will show a movie about the Kogi people (Colombia) the gathering of Indigenous peoples will be from 15.00 till 20.00 at the Buurtboerderij Ons Genoegen, Amsterdam on October 12th 2013.

Proceeds will go to support the Mapuche community Wente Winkul Mapu. Maricheweu International (“10 times we shall overcome”) unites people whose main goal it is to support the human rights of the Mapuche (people of the earth). The Mapuche are an indigenous people of South America. Their ancestral lands are occupied by Chile and Argentina. Currently there live more than 1,5 million Mapuche in Chile and about 50,000 in Argentina.
The ongoing systematic destruction of indigenous peoples in South America is an indisputable fact, and apparently an international political strategy. In Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Chile and elsewhere the human rights of indigenous peoples are flouted over and over again. While there is progress on legal issues, as there are made judgements, decrees, laws and international treaties for the protection, conservation and respect for Indigenous Peoples, all this does not seem to suffice. Indigenous peoples make up a third of the rural poor and have higher mortality and child mortality rates than any other group. The UN Declaration on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights has finally got the consensus it deserves, but their rights are still far from being recognized at national and local levels.
