Benefit voku for the greek imprisoned anarchist comrades Marianna M., Dimitra, Dimitris, Nikos Romanos and A.K.

Thursday May 1st, 2025, Benefit voku for the greek imprisoned anarchist comrades Marianna M., Dimitra, Dimitris, Nikos Romanos and A.K. – food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Statement from Marianna M. published on Indymedia Athens, April 6, 2025: On 31.10.2024 on the third floor of an apartment in Arkadias Street (Athens), during the processing of explosives by my comrade and guerrilla Kyriakos Xymitiris, an explosion took place with the tragic consequence of his death. For a few moments, with me in the next room, time froze, everything went black and I was unable to move. The condition was incomprehensible, the development inconceivable. Buried in the wreckage trying to figure out what had happened;asking for help, searching for my partner with my eyes. Slowly realizing that while the thread of my comrade’s action would be abruptly cut short, his life and his choices in struggle would be a historic flash of determined resistance, consistency and dedication; a springboard and inspiration for further struggle. Two figures appeared offering help while I showed them the spot where I last saw my comrade, the spot where our guilty gazes met, gazes full of anger at the world we live in, full of faith and appetite for moments of true freedom.

Within a few minutes I was in the hospital “Evangelismos”. I was immediately subjected to examinations and operations. I had a hematoma on my head and countless stitches on the upper part of my body. I remained intubated and completely unconscious for the next three days. Enough time for the “anti-“terror scumbags to come to the hospital demanding a blood sample. On the Monday, I regained consciousness and was transferred to the ICU where I was confined for the next three days. The conditions there were decent with medical staff eager to assist in my recovery. However the room was surrounded by police forces who entered the ICU room during the 5-minute visits from my family.

After two days I was transferred – for no apparent reason – to an isolation ward guarded by several static and as many mobile cops in the hallways and on the floors. The door to my room was constantly open leaving zero privacy even during medical examinations. Under the “watchful” gaze of every single cop I had to eat, be examined, and have my body cleaned. Following instructions, the majority of medical and nursing staff maintained a distant attitude, showing zero empathy even in the most basic things, for example when they carried out an examination with the presence of a male police officer.

The insistence of the 22nd investigator of the Athens District Court on conducting the interrogation procedure despite my physical and mental weakness also contributed to the vindictive atmosphere. After asking for a certificate of my sufficient ‘functionality’, which she read at her discretion, she finally gave me the sham extension of 30 hours. She thus confirmed the fact that her priority was my predetermined pre-trial detention and prosecution under 187A.

On Friday 15.11, and just one day after the second operation I underwent, I was transferred to the women’s prison in Korydallos. My daily life, under these circumstances, was difficult. Under deplorable sanitary conditions and with unhealed wounds on my body and head, the repressive mechanism was playing with my health. I was without the necessary medical care and without access to the necessary medication, a condition that all prisoners face as they are perceived as second-class citizens with no right to medical care, with superficial to non-existent medical examinations by prison doctors, with prohibition of necessary medical procedures, with discontinuation of medication taken before incarceration, with long waits for months for emergency examinations in outpatient hospitals.

Bella Ciao dinner & party, live music, antifascist karaoke

Friday April 25, 2025, Bella Ciao dinner & party. Let’s celebrate Italy’s Liberation day together. Door opens at 16:00, food served from 19:00.

April 25th marks Italy’s National Liberation Day, a celebration of the country’s freedom from the nazi-fascist occupation.
80 years ago, on this very day, the partisans of the Italian Resistance regained control of Northern Italy, bringing an end to twenty years of fascist oppression and five years of war.
For two years, the partisans fought under the Italian tricolor flag, standing against the black flags of the fascists and the swastikas of the nazis.
Celebrating April 25th means remembering that struggle for freedom and democracy and defending the values of Italy’s anti-fascist Constitution that was born from that struggle.
To celebrate these ideals we’re hosting a Bella Ciao dinner and party. There will be great food, live music, and an antifascist karaoke – a chance for everyone to grab the mic and sing the songs that inspired the fight for freedom.

Voku benefit for Andreas Floros

Thursday April 24, 2025, Voku benefit for Andreas Floros. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Join us for an evening of food and music in solidarity with our imprisoned comrade Andreas Floros.
All benefits from the event will go to support greek anarchist Andreas Floros who is currently imprisoned in Amfissa jail in Greece. His court hearing is starting on May 16th and we are raising money for his legal expenses. Entrance is free, food on donation from 19:00, no reservation.

Freedom to the anarchist Andreas Floros

On 22/4/24, the anarchist comrade Andreas Floros is kidnapped by the anti-terrorist police in Patras, where he resides, and taken to Athens for interrogation.

Simultaneously, an invasion by the police takes place at his home, in an attempt to gather incriminating evidence against him. His electronic devices and other personal items were confiscated. This constitutes the second home invasion that the comrade suffers within a short period, with the first one concerning a case of petty theft of items at a supermarket.

In this second act of the Helenic Police terror scenario, Andreas is transferred to Athens, interrogated and prosecuted based on the infamous anti-terrorist law (187A) as a member of the “συμπραξη εκδίκησης/revenge conspiracy” organization and as a physical perpetrator of its actions. Our comrade denies those accusations in their entirety.

The “pinnacle” of the supposed evidence that led to the prosecution of our comrade are two written admissions of responsibility from the “revenge conspiracy” which were found copied onto his electronic media, but with creation/storage dates later than their online publication.

Amidst a paranoia of slander and misinformation, from local and nation-wide media, on 26/4/24 the comrade is put in pre-trial custody in the prison of Amfissa. At the same time, a police attack takes place at a solidarity rally for Andreas in the Parartima squat in Patras, where 25 comrades were arrested.

Targeting our comrade Andreas is an attack on the entire movement.

So many months later(of my captivity), there is no evidence against me. I am being prosecuted for my timeless presence in every aspect of the social and class struggle because I have chosen in this life to walk with my head held high, taken the stand in the most beautiful struggle, that for universal individual and collective liberation, for a world of solidarity, dignity, peace, equality, without exploitation and oppression, without wars and the desertification of life, for an emancipated and under no authority world.”

As our comrade is facing a complex and heavy indictment, this campaign aims at supporting the financial demands of the legal struggle that lies ahead. You can find more details about Andreas’ case and also donate in the following link. […Lees verder]

Cinerevolt, two films by Harun Farocki: The Inextinguishable Fire (1969) and Eine Sache, die sich versteht (1971)

Sunday April 20, 2025, Cinerevolt: 2 films by Harun Farocki, The Inextinguishable Fire (1969) and Eine Sache, die sich versteht (1971) * doors open at 20:00 * intro & first film starts at 20:30.
This month Cinerevolt returns to highlight the experimental and propagandistic work of German filmmaker Harun Farocki.

The Inextinguishable Fire (1969)

“When we show you pictures of napalm victims, you’ll shut your eyes. You’ll close your eyes to the pictures. Then you’ll close them to the memory. And then you’ll close your eyes to the facts.”

These words are spoken at the beginning of an agitprop film that can be viewed as a unique and remarkable development. Farocki refrains from making any sort of emotional appeal. His point of departure is the following: “When napalm is burning, it is too late to extinguish it. You have to fight napalm where it is produced: in the factories.”

Resolutely, Farocki names names: the manufacturer is Dow Chemical, based in Midland, Michigan in the United States. Against backdrops suggesting the laboratories and offices of this corporation, the film then proceeds to educate us with an austerity reminiscent of Jean Marie Straub. Farocki’s development unfolds: “(1) A major corporation is like a construction set. It can be used to put together the whole world. (2) Because of the growing division of labor, many people no longer recognize the role they play in producing mass destruction. (3) That which is manufactured in the end is the product of the workers, students, and engineers.”

Eine Sache, die sich versteht (1971)

One thing that goes without saying is an educational film about a section of political economy. The subject matter of instruction is the concepts of use value, exchange value, commodity, labor power; they are intended to initiate the process of understanding the labor theory of value and the law of value, alienation and fetish.
