Since the mass resistance to the illegitimate 2020 elections in Belarus, at least 4,594 people have been recognised as political prisoners. The arrests are still happening, and with the Russian occupation of Ukraine and Belarus’ involvement in the war continuing, we can expect more people detained for their anti-war positions.

Recently though, since December 2025, as part of a deal with the US for lifting sanctions, several hundred political prisoners were released. Some of them were released to neighbouring countries, Lithuania and Ukraine, without the possibility of coming back to Belarus. Urgent help is therefore needed for those brought into exile, as well as those who stayed in Belarus following their release.

While the sentiment behind the release deals is for sure questionable, and it is worrying that the release of a few hundred people may conceal the continuing force of repression, pushing for the freedom of all political prisoners stays a necessity, and so does supporting those who have been released.

To stand in solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners, Chaos Kitchen is raising money for Volnyja that supports those who recently regained their freedom. Cooks for Books: Chaos Kitchen Voku for Feminist Library Noord

The Feminist Library and Chaos Kitchen are coming together for our first VoKu in our Cooks for Books series, raising money for new books for our ever-evolving library at Het Groeneveld, ADM.
If you don’t know us yet, the Feminist Library is an anti-imperialist, anticolonial, antiracist feminist library that understands feminism as a project for the liberation of all. Everyone is welcome. Our collection spans fiction and non-fiction, theory and practice, art and photography, children’s books and zines. We collect work on liberation movements, Black and queer activism, Indigenous knowledges, feminist Marxism, lesbian and trans histories, abolitionism, ecology, feminist art, and embodiment and health. At the moment, our books are in Dutch and English, but we hope to keep growing and diversifying.
Because a library like this can never be complete, we’re hosting Cooks for Books VoKu nights to raise funds to expand the collection. During the meal, we’ll pass around a suggestion box where you can tell us what you would like to read and what you think should be part of a public collection for the city of Amsterdam.

A world where all human beings are free to move and receive equal treatment and equal rights wherever they are. That’s all we’re asking for! For people to be truly free and equal, we need to abolish passport Apartheid. We want to work towards a world where migration is not a privilege, but a right.
Join us for a voku organized by Chaos Kitchen to raise funds for MiGreat, an organization dedicated to advocating for the freedom of movement and equal rights for all human beings.
MiGreat is working to change power structures that systematically oppress and exploit people, mainly from the global South. They campaign against the brutal border regime, which is ineffective, harmful and deadly, and against Dutch migration policies, that systematically lock people up and deport them. Benefit voku for Astaro Theatro

Kaos Kitchen is raising funds for Astaro Theatro, a community theatre in the heart of touristy Amsterdam. Still surviving amidst the floods of commodifications, but the tides are rising and so are the rent and bills. Astaro has always been a place where the marginalized can come together in joy, to dance, to play, to sing or have some paste made with love. In short a wholesome home for all. A place of rest and regeneration where art and activism meet.
As the maestro himself says it:
“Our lives are communal; we need to be social to survive. The neoliberal assumption of individuals being responsible for their (material-economical) wellbeing within society (read: market) leads to the commodification of mankind, a world where everything and everyone is a commodity, a product. This is true for the arts as well. We witness the growing pornification of theatre in order to sell, its reduction to an empty shell, flashing from the outside but devoid of authentic, unexploited meaning within. The exploration of meaning is at present dangerous territory, mined and savage, where artists need to move with care”
In treu Astaro Theatro spirit, there will be food, there will be shows and there will be a whole lot of gezelligheid.
