Benefit Riseup

Do./Th. March 28th 2013: Volkseten Vegazulu, Benefit Riseup, 19:00 pm.

Riseup Networks (riseup.net) is based in Seattle, and is an worldwide active autonomous tech collective that provides online communication tools for people and groups working on libertarian social change.
It offers secure private email accounts and mailing lists for many activist organisations. They provide free servers, bandwidth, and technical support to some other technology collectives around the globe, and host affordable co-locations for social justice organisations on over 30 servers.
Riseup is currently busy on developing an open source based online collaborative editor (etherpad) and multimedia chat services (jabber) and it’s own Personal VPN. It mainly develops and contributes to the development of different services, projects and free software that improves ones autonomy, privacy and security on the web.
Why that paranoia and effort when there are so many handy and free services already available?
When you get a service from a corporation that doesn’t charge you, chances are that the money comes from extensive surveillance. Surveillance-based tracking of our personal behaviour (gathering and analysis of massive amount of personal data) has become common practise for commercial and political purposes by governments, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and corporations. It’s vital that essential communication infrastructure is in hands of movement organizations and people itself instead!
Geeks like from Riseup put all effort into it to realize that. In their support some bitcoins/financial contribution will be raised during tonight amazingly tasty benefit dinner.

Volkseten Vegazulu is a people’s kitchen, every monday and thursday, 19:00 PM, vegan food for 4€ or donation. All benefits go for social & political struggles. No reservation.

We’re always looking for cooks. Any help is welcome in the kitchen. Experience not required. Enjoying it is a must. If you want to know which days are still available in the schedule, send an email to joe[at]squat.net and book yourself the night. You can, of course, also participate by rolling up your sleeves and doing the dishes.
