Zo. 3 april Filmavond, 20uur, Fantastic Planet (René Laloux, Fr, 1973, animated film, english subtitles)
This film takes place on a faraway planet where giants rule, and tiny humanoids must fight for their lives and their equality. A metaphor of class struggles.

Voku-benefiet voor De Karavaan – Van 6 tot 11 februari 2011 vond het 11de Wereld Sociaal Forum plaats in Dakar. Tien dagen eerder vertrok De Karavaan vanuit Bamako om op 3 februari in Dakar aan te komen.
This is a benefit voku for the Caravan-Tour, parallel to this voku, there will be an infonight on sunday april 10th, with the screening of ‘Come Un Uomo Sulla Terra’, documentary by Riccardo Biadene, Andrea Segre and Dagmawi Yimer, made in 2008. Zo. 10 april: Info-avond over De Karavaan en vertoning van ‘Come Un Uomo Sulla Terra’ (documentary by Riccardo Biadene, Andrea Segre, Dagmawi Yimer. Italy, 2008, 61′, english subtitles). 20uur, donations welcome.
De film portreteert drie Ethiopische migranten die Libië doorkruisten om zo in Italie aan te komen. De film gaat ook over de deals gemaakt tussen Italie en Libië aangaande migratiestop, financiering van detentiecentra, externalisatie van EU-grenzen. The film is a journey of pain and dignity, through which Dagmawi Yimer voices his memories of unthinkable human suffering to denounce what appears to be a tragic political and humanitarian situation . In this respect both Italy and Europe share responsibilities for this situation and should be made accountable for it.

During this info evening we’d like to inform you about the current state and the reopening of the Vrankrijk. We will talk about some of the difficulties we’ve encountered and shortly present our plans so far. Further we’d like to discuss possible strategies for reopening despite the uncooperativeness of the city of Amsterdam.

1000 years after the “Seven Days of Fire”, in which the world was destroyed by excessive industrialisation, the pacifist warrior Princess Nausicaä desperately struggles to prevent two warring nations from destroying themselves and their dying planet. Apart from being a great movie in itself, this film also laid the basis for the Japanese anime Studio Ghibli.

In Mei 2011 the new makelaar (real estate agent) Vrijland will be launched. With the catchy slogan ‘Gratis wonen ook voor U’(Free housing for you too) Underneath the slick exterior lies another story….
We have been working on gathering different stories about empty houses in Amsterdam, from criminal speculation, to ridiculous rents to the ubiquitous empty office block and so much more. We are building a website to showcase them like a real real estate agents and have worked out a house style that looks very much like a real makelaar. The idea is to use this as a communications campaign about what is wrong when you let property get before people and as a means to reopen the debate on squatting and the ills of anti-kraak grass roots style. Alongside postering and daring climbing actions our makelaar wants to set up shop on busy market streets, make people laugh and maybe learn a little from them too.
We need a to raise money for posters and billboards. Please come along and eat delicious food in a wonderful atmosphere and support us by filling your stomach and your spirit @ Joe’s Garage. Gourmet menu guaranteed!

The story of the female cyborg called Motoko Kusanagi and her partner that hunt the mysterious and powerful hacker called the Puppet Master, is more than only a story. It has has become the hallmark of a broad cyberpunk culture and its topics. During the chase, Kusanagi questions herself. Is she ‘human’? Or is she merely a ‘ghost’, captured by a ‘shell’, and directed by external forces?

Warka Foundation is supporting 15 kids in Ethiopia, providing food and teaching them how to be self-sufficient. Warka is looking for volunteers with various skills, to participate both in Ethiopia and the Netherlands. http://warkafoundation.org/
