Monday 23th of April, 7pm. Infonight about the foreign detention situation in the Netherlands. Benefits will be used for the Arrest Group as well as for a modest token of thanks for the foreign detention lawyers at the Bohler office (Mrs Ullersma & colleagues). These pro-deo (voluntary) lawyers devote their career to defending those subjected to the human rights violating laws against illegal foreigners.
During food there will be a very short info talk about foreign detention in Holland, and after we will be showing a short docu by Amnesty on the subject. There will be a donation box present, and we will use the donations to support the Arrest Group’s amazing work, as well as buy a modest present as a token of appreciation for the Bohler advocates from those activists they defended in the past and/or will have to defend in the future. (Mrs. Ullersma went out of her way helping the activists who were put in foreign detention after the Scheinheilig demo in july last year, eventually leading to the Raad van State finally judging in favour of the activists in Januari).

Op 13 november 2011, is Da Costakade 15Hs herkraakt door een groep jonge politiek actieve kunstenaars. Dit pand was in 2009 voor het eerst gekraakt en in september 2010 ontruimd. De eigenaar Van Keulen heeft het pand in 2001 gekocht en op 19 juli 2005 een spiltsingsvergunning aangevraagd zo dat hij op later tijdstip het pand als losse appartementen kon verkopen. In oktober van 2007 heeft hij een sloop en renovatie vergunning aangevraagd voor de begane grond en eerste verdieping. In 2010 hebben de krakers hun recht zaak verloren gebaseerd op onduidelijk argumenten van de eigenaar over zijn plannen en dat hij daar zo snel mogelijk mee aan de slag wou. De krakers geloofden de eigenaar en hebben toen het pand vrijwillig verlaten. Meer dan een jaar later, stond het pand nog steeds leeg. Er hadden geen werkzaamheden plaats gevonden in het pand in het verstreken jaar wat bewijst dat het nooit het plan was van de eigenaar om te verbouwen of het leegstands probleem in zijn pand op te lossen. Dit soort speculatie kan niet langer getolereerd worden! Momenteel staat het pand op de Da Costakade 15hs op de ontruimingslijst van het OM. Er zal wellicht op dinsdag 27 maart worden ontruimd.

In April 1975, civil war breaks out; Beirut is partitioned along a Muslim-Christian line and is divided into East and West Beirut. Tarek is in high school, making Super 8 movies with his friend, Omar. At first the war is a lark: school has closed, the violence is fascinating, getting from West to East is a game. His mother wants to leave; his father refuses. Tarek spends time with May, a Christian, orphaned and living in his building. By accident, Tarek goes to an infamous brothel in the war-torn Olive Quarter, meeting its legendary madam, Oum Walid. He then takes Omar and May there. Family tensions rise. As he comes of age, the war moves inexorably from adventure to tragedy.

Greek Infonight, Debtocracy

Discussion about what is happening in Greece and screening of Debtocracy, documentary film by Katerina Kitidi and Aris Hatzistefanou. The documentary mainly focuses on two points: the causes of the Greek debt crisis in 2010 and possible future solutions that could be given to the problem that are not currently being considered by the government of the country.
