Free West Papua Campaign Infonight Benefit

Monday September 30th 2013, Free West Papua Campaign Infonight/Benefit, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm

Jeremy Bally is a man on a mission. He is Pedalling for Papua on a Storytelling Biketour accross 7 countries: Canada, U.S.A, Ireland, U.K., the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand (12.000 km). Like the old troubadours, accompanied by his ukelele/hip-hop base songs, he will bring us stories and testimonies of a little know conflict: the occupation and repression in West Papua by the Indonesian government.
Official estimates range from 100,000 to 500,000 West Papuans having died as a result of the Indonesian government’s policies in this illegally annexed region (an ongoing media ban makes this figure impossible to verify). The slow-burning conflict is fueled by one of the highest military to civilian ratios in the world, while legal and illegal logging, mining and fishing uproot one of the world’s most diverse and valuable ecosystems. Profits from resource extraction trickle down in meager amounts to West Papuans, whose home regularly ranks last out of Indonesia’s 33 provinces on markers for development like access to healthcare and education. Poverty is rampant. […Lees verder]

Presentation about the occupation of the Hambacher forest and call for mobilization!

Thursday September 19th 2013, Presentation about the occupation of the Hambacher Forest and call for mobilization! The same evening at Joe’s Garage, Cardiff Squatters Network Infonight. With the Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

The Hambacher forest close to Cologne in Germany is now again occupied since a few weeks, wherefore the resistance movement against the clearing of the forest goes on. The new squatted area is now threatened by eviction, so that support in occupying the forest, infrastructural matters (e.g. cooking), presswork, etc. is needed. Furthermore the Hambacher forest represents a nice place to connect political activism with spending a good time with nice people!

In order to excavate coal, the energy company RWE clears the originally more than 4500 hectars big and 12000 years old forest, damages agricultural land and relocates villages Some of the effects of the excavation of coal are the destruction of living space for plants, animals and humans, air and fine dust pollution, release of radioactive substances and the lowering of ground water. The coal excavation in the rhine area is responsible for 13% of the CO2 emissions in whole Germany.

Within the next two month the Valreep gets legalized or most likely will be evicted next spring. A hot autumn is coming up and we want you to get involved. We will present to you our ideas and intentions. Check our website on previous actions and for our program: http://valreep.org/ […Lees verder]

Genova 2001 is not over – Benefit Voku for the activists convicted after the G8 protests

quadrato_banner_genova

Monday August 12th 2013, Genova 2001 is not over – Benefit Voku for the activists convicted after the G8 protests, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

In July 2012, 11 years after the protests against the G8 summit in Genoa, 10 people have been convicted for taking part in the demonstrations, the sentences vary from 6-14 years.

The law that allowed this insane sentence is named “Devastation and Looting”: this law was included in the Italian Penal Code in 1935, to protect the so called “public order” under the fascist regime. In the last decade this law has been used multiple times to convict political activists.

In 2004 SupportoLegale (LegalSupport) started a campaign to raise money to support the people involved in the trials connected to the demonstrations of Genova2001 and now, after all these years, SupportoLegale launched the campaign 10×100. One of the aims of this campaign is the abolition of this fascist law, that is being used more and more often to convict political activists. […Lees verder]

Paris suburbs’ squat “Le transfo” benefit and infonight

transfo_squat_paris_suburbs

Monday July 29th 2013, Paris suburbs’ squat “Le transfo” benefit and infonight, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

The transformer is a space occupied since November 14, 2012. This place nearly one hectare owned by EDF has been empty for several years. EDF is a dirty business that extorts every home selling nuclear energy which poisons our lives. It also speculates on the property. Given the logic of money we invest collectively this place on non-commercial basis. We would talk on july about paris suburbs’ squat “Le Transfo (http://transfo.squat.net/), and possibly, if needed, more widely about the squats situation in France. […Lees verder]
