Welcome to gentrified Transvaalbuurt! Two new apartment blocks are being built next to the Steve Bikoplein. New trendy terraces and restaurants keep appearing. We’ll take the square the time of a voku. We’ll eat all together 50 meters away from Joe’s Garage, on the Steve Bikoplein. For once, an event on that square not sponsored by Ymere. The US led invasion of Iraq in 2003 and its ongoing aftermath may be remembered as the worst tragedy of the early 21st century. It is estimated that Iraq has witnessed over 1 million excess deaths, 4.2 million injured people and 4.5 million refugees since the invasion.

– What were the reasons and interest behind the invasion?
– What is the role of oil and multinational corporations?
– What is the role of the Netherlands?
– May we speak of Western neo-imperialism?

Info-night and benefit “Surround the Parliament”, Barcelona

Monday May 26th 2014, Info-night and benefit for people arrested after “Surround the parliament” action in Barcelona, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

On 15th June 2011 thousands of people gathered at the gates of the Park de la Ciutadella in Barcelona to demonstrate their opposition to the deeply antisocial proposals being voted on that same day inside the Parliament of Catalonia. The mobilization was a decision taken during the open, transparent and horizontal debates in the massive public assemblies that were taking place at that time.

In the first week of October of that same year, the Catalan Police, the Mossos d’Esquadra made 20 random arrest. People were held for hours in cells in different police stations when the only motive for their arrest was to summons them to appear before the National High Court in Madrid, accused of a “crime against the institutions of the State”.

Almost two years after these arrests, in April and May of this year (2014) the trial will take place at the National High Court, in San Fernando de Henares, close to Madrid. The 20 defendants are facing between 3 and 8 years in jail. […Lees verder]

Migratie-beleid.nl is a new project from Buro Jansen & Janssen. The website will publish as many government documents about migration as possible, whether these were made public voluntarily by the Goverment themselves or through freedom of information requests (via the Wet Openbaarheid van Bestuur WOB and Wet Inlichtingen en Veiligheidsdiensten).

The website is an online platform for critical research on migration in the Netherlands and Europe. Initially it will focus on the Netherlands, but later also on European Union migration policy. In addition to public documents, the website will have analysis, publications and research. Research not just on recent developments, but also over the last decades. Benefit for International Conference of social actors in Congo DRC

Since 1996 a war torns, rapes and kills people in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Several conferences of different political views have been organized without success. A big UN mission said to stabilize the region has been operating over the last ten years while the situation is only getting worse.
Thus, not to be responsible for non-assistance to people in danger facing history, we have seen fit to organize an international conference on social actors with the aim of creating a permanent social body in all of its aspects in order to promote social dynamics at the national level and lobbying at international level.
This conference will bring together the Congolese living in Europe and those living in Congo. We will associate partners of the African, American and European civil society as to benefit from their expertise in the peaceful resolution of problems.

Vechtstraat Benefit

Vechtstraat 1, 5, 7 and Amstelkade 25 have been squatted beginning of March 2014. In the squatted block are now living renters, squatters and anti-squatters. Soon after, a new social centre, De Strijd, opened on Vechtstraat 7, with a give away shop, various workshops and a voku twice a week, vegan pizza nights, kickers championship. Real estate developer and politician Wim Oostveen is not yet bankrupt but will take on May 6th the squatters to court. Benefit for political prisoners in Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina

Thursday May 1st 2014, Benefit for political prisoners in Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

On Sunday May 4th, we’ll have an info night/screening with Global Uprisings. Before that, we’ll have a benefit voku to support political prisoners in Spain and Bosnia & Herzegovina. March 22nd 2014, millions of people took the streets of Madrid. By the end of the protests, there were 101 injuries and 29 people arrested.
