This month you will find lots of exciting events again in our squatted, d.i.y, social and political centre. The many active volunteers are happy to organise, cook, screen, talk, arrange, draw, explain, joke, write and clean as usual but they do need your help. So if you feel like getting involved, please tap someone’s shoulder or drop us a line.

Or just come to one of the film nights on Sundays, Come to the Greek info night and voku on Monday 5th, or the Beetelling and Sushi night on Sunday 11th. Or maybe you prefer the Radio Patapoe Benefit and Voku on Thursday 22nd and the Anti-ACTA Benefit Voku on Thursday 29th. Filmavond: West Beirut

Zo./Su. 18 maart 2012: Film night, 20uur: West Beirut (Ziad Doueiri, Lebanon, 1998, 105′). English subtitles.

In April 1975, civil war breaks out; Beirut is partitioned along a Muslim-Christian line and is divided into East and West Beirut. Tarek is in high school, making Super 8 movies with his friend, Omar. At first the war is a lark: school has closed, the violence is fascinating, getting from West to East is a game. His mother wants to leave; his father refuses. Tarek spends time with May, a Christian, orphaned and living in his building. By accident, Tarek goes to an infamous brothel in the war-torn Olive Quarter, meeting its legendary madam, Oum Walid. He then takes Omar and May there. Family tensions rise. As he comes of age, the war moves inexorably from adventure to tragedy.

Greek Infonight, Debtocracy

Discussion about what is happening in Greece and screening of Debtocracy, documentary film by Katerina Kitidi and Aris Hatzistefanou. The documentary mainly focuses on two points: the causes of the Greek debt crisis in 2010 and possible future solutions that could be given to the problem that are not currently being considered by the government of the country.

A Very inspiring example of a mobile urban garden is the Berlin project Prinzessinnengarten

Prinzessinnengärten is a pilot project that started in the summer of 2009 at Moritzplatz in Berlin Kreuzberg, a site which had been a wasteland for over half a century. Along with friends, fans, activists and neighbours, the group cleared away rubbish, built transportable organic vegetable plots and reaped the first fruits of their labour.
