Mar i Sol is a nice house in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Barcelona. On the 1st November 2015, the house was squatted after being empty for more than 10 years. It’s owned by a private owner, who claims that she has no money to do anything with the propety and after the eviction, she only wants to close down the house and do nothing with it.
Since the first day, the new inhabitants have been working on the house and made it livable. It is both a living house and a social center with free-shop, work-shops, benefit dinners, jam sessions…
After 3 months living in the house, they got a letter for a court case.
14th March 2016: Civil court case.
They loose the case and decide to go to the higher court .
26th September 2016: Higher court, the case goes to the «Audiencia Provincial de BCN».
14th November 2016: First verdict: 6 euro per day during 6 months, 1080 euro in total to pay to the owner, plus the judicial cost. The amount is unknown right now.
Kasa Mar i Sol is waiting as well for the date of eviction which might take place soon.

PazAlaCalle Benefit, Colombia Peacebuilding Conversation

20161222_PazAlaCalle_peace_building_conversationThursday 22nd of December 2016, PazAlaCalle Benefit. Open dialogue: Peacebuilding in Colombia post conflict: A review from different perspectives. Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

Colombian peace deal and its endorsement

In the last 52 years Colombia has suffered from an armed conflict between their government and several groups of rebels. Among these groups is FARC-EP (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army). In the last 30 years FARC and the Colombian government have tried twice to solve the conflict through dialogue, unfortunately without the desired result. On the 5th of August 2014 the Colombian government, led by President Juan Manuel Santos, and the guerillas officially announced that new peace talks would be undertaken in Havana, Cuba. After four years of intense negotiations the world witnessed the signing of a historical peace agreement on the 26th of September 2016.
The peace agreement was rejected by more than the half of people in Colombia through referendum. The referendum showed the country heavily divided as inhabitants of areas where FARC had more impact supported the agreement while areas less impacted by the conflict did not. Finally, last 30th of November Colombian Congress endorsed a modified agreement worked by the negotiation team, it took into account in a big portion the disagreements of the “no” defenders.

Peace to the Street Movement

Realizing the possible disastrous consequences of the rejection, a popular movement evolved that demanded the FARC and the government to continue the negotiations, while taking into account the arguments of the people who voted “No” and effectively achieve an end of the conflict. Part of this popular movement was Peace to the Street that organized discussions on the streets, trying to overcome differences between both sides by focusing on the common desire for peace. In the current scenario where the Peace Agreement has been endorsed, the movement looks forward to actively monitoring its implementation.

Open Dialogue

In this context the members of Peace to the Street – The Netherlands want to organize an open dialogue which will allow the movement to maintain the political discussions in the conjuncture of process of peace in Colombia, it also will represent an opportunity to formulate other initiatives in order contribute to the social mobilization.
The conversation are going to discuss about the following points:
* Peacebuilding perspectives addressed by three topics: FARC political participation; issues related with post-conflict
*Communication approaches and mass media contribution to peacebuilding

Benefiet Voku AFA

All Included benefit, actions against Valletta by Afrique Europe Interact in Africa and Europe

Monday December 12th 2016, All Included benefit, actions against Valletta by Afrique Europe Interact in Africa and Europe. Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

Migration is felt as a problem, as a threat. Politicians are only reacting on the defensive without any vision. Too many deaths on our doorstep leads to deals with human rights violators such as Niger, Turkey, Morocco, Libya, Eritrea. Development aid is now – under the guise of saving lives – openly used to stop migration in countries of origin. Asylum seekers should be housed in overcrowded camps in countries such as Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. No vision that goes beyond our borders and that offers perspectives for North and South. During the Dutch presidency of the European Commission in early 2016 All Included worked closely together with an initiative of 10 NGOs from West Africa concerning the pressure from the EU to close the borders between African countries. In April, we presented a declaration from these organizations to the dutch foreign minister Koenders just before his visit to West Africa. In September we held a public meeting on the impact of the Euro-African Valetta agreement from nov. 2015 for the population in African countries. Alassane Dicko Afrique-Europe Interact (section Mali) was our guest in Amsterdam visits (http://www.allincluded.nl/posts/category/actie/acties-tegen-eu-afrika-afspraken-valletta/).
In november 2016, we attended a large gathering of the Association Malienne the Expulsés (expelled migrants) in Bamako/Mali on deportations and the social movement in West Africa. Also, a meeting was held by the Malian Afrique-Europe Interact in Bamako where women’s organizations, fishermen, farmers, expelled migrants, residents against gentrification came together to support each other. Actions by Afrique-Europe Interact took place in Berlin and in Bamako in nov. concerning the pressure of Europe on the West-African countries on signing readmission agreements and accepting the European Laissez Passer (one way passport). Movie night: HyperNormalisation (2016)

HyperNormalisationSunday December 11th 2016, Movie night: HyperNormalisation, documentary by Adam Curtis, 2016, 2 hours 46 minutes, in English with English subtitles. Door opens at 8pm, film begin at 9pm. Free admission.

The latest film from documentary maker, Adam Curtis, continues to pursue his path to provide a narrative outside the simple narrative of history. Using his jump-cuts and abrupt mood changes here in this near 3 hours exploration of the present political situation he again examines, questions the powers that brought us to this situation.
The BBC about the film: “We live in a time of great uncertainty and confusion. Events keep happening that seem inexplicable and out of control. Donald Trump, Brexit, the War in Syria, the endless migrant crisis, random bomb attacks. And those who are supposed to be in power are paralysed – they have no idea what to do.
This film is the epic story of how we got to this strange place. It explains not only why these chaotic events are happening – but also why we, and our politicians, cannot understand them.
It shows that what has happened is that all of us in the West – not just the politicians and the journalists and the experts, but we ourselves – have retreated into a simplified, and often completely fake version of the world. But because it is all around us we accept it as normal.
But there is another world outside. Forces that politicians tried to forget and bury forty years ago – that then festered and mutated – but which are now turning on us with a vengeful fury. Piercing though the wall of our fake world.”

A zine with the voice over and dialogues from the film will be available at the screening. […Lees verder]

He revisits memories of his courageous life and revolutionary theories. We learn about his family, his struggles and the boils on his arse.
