Benefit voku: For Stefan Lachen. Against Police Brutality

Monday 4 April 2022, Benefit voku: For Stefan Lachen’s family. Stefan Lachen died in police custody in Madrid on the 15th April 2018. Volkseten Vegazulu. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Stefan Lache was 28 years old with a partner and two kids. One night, he was out partying with a couple of friends and was randomly stopped by police, they arrested him for not having identification on him (he had left it in the car in another neighbourhood). The next morning he was found dead in his cell at the Carabanchel police station in Madrid. There is no footage of what happened inside the cell but you can see photos of how one of the agents who enters with him takes out his baton and another of them puts on his gloves.
The autopsy said he died of natural causes, yet he had no previous medical issues before his arrest. His family appealed the decision with no different result. The cost of the lawyer and the independent autopsy were expensive, which led to Liliana (his parthner) to morgage the family house, she and their kids were evicted from the property.
The benefit from this voku is to support Stefan Lache’s family and their ongoing costs.

Justice for Sammy B

Monday 14th June 2021, Volkseten Vegazulu: Justice for Sammy B. From 7pm till 8:30pm. No reservation.

Last month state prosecutor, Anne Marie Ruijs, decided that the cops who murdered Sammy B. will face no consequences. Ruijs ruled that they will not face a legal procedure at all. She has always ruled in favour of the police. Cops get away with murder. Despite all the lies of Amsterdam police as well as the overwhelming evidence showing that Sammy was murdered (including a video clearly showing what actually happened). Sammy was a person of colour that was having a mental breakdown. He was calling for a doctor and despite the fact that psychological help and his mother were at the scene, the police refused him this help.

At the Joe’s Garage voku on Monday 14th June, we will raise money for Sammy’s family, who will receive no financial compensation due to Ruijs’ verdict in favour of the police.

Solidarity with our immigrant comrades attacked by the urban guard in Barcelona

Monday June 29th 2020, Solidarity with our immigrant comrades attacked by the urban guard in Barcelona. Voku & Takeaway, from 7pm till 9pm. No reservation.

On May 17th, in the city of Barcelona, two immigrant comrades were detained and assaulted by the local police. The events occurred in the context of the lock down, where they were attacked by the urban guard for being on the street. Faced with not only physical but also verbal aggression, with xenophobic expressions, one of our comrades tried to defend. As a result of that they are both accused of aggravated assault on officers.
The situation is further complicated since one of them, in addition to a possible prison sentence, can face deportation order.
It goes without saying that their economic situation is difficult because they are immigrants and find themselves without papers. For this reason we are in search of economic contributions to be able to face the legal expenses.

Any help can be sent to the account:

Expect food to be handed out on the Steve Bikoplein, or simply a take away at the door, depending of the weather conditions and the kitchen crew. Join us and the Transvaalbuurt on the square to share some food, meet the community and play some basketball. Your donations are welcome. Starting from 19:00 untill 21:00, vegan, no reservation.

Nee tegen de nieuwe politie wet! No to the new police law!

The people raise their fists in the air, the government gives them the finger. No to the new police law!

All throughout the country, we are protecting police violence and meanwhile, the government is trying to force upon us a stronger police law, a law not only providing the police of more weapons (taser and rubber bullets) but also lowering standards, for using these, combined with the already given more authorities, less strict instruction of usage, results in harder to prosecute cops in case of violence.

Ignored by mass media, the state pushes expanding monopoly of violence thru the agenda very actively, just at that moment we are demonstrating against racism and police violence.

The law “Geweldaanwending Opsporingsambtenaar” (assault by an investigating officer) states that the use of violence, which is punishable for any other person, is part of the work of the police and thus that they should not be prosecuted for this. It means basically when someone was killed by the police, it’s not going to be called a murder but misconduct, and a ‘blue court’ will provide for this and the maximum jail time would become 3 years.

With the broader and more unclear police code of conduct, it will be harder to infringe these rules, and it will be easier to use violence against us, which may lead to impunity. As for the taser, illegally implemented by the minister thru an extraordinary bundel of lies about violence against police, will have an enormous impact on our safety with its weak code of conduct, low level of accountability, and proven more frequent (mis)use.

Approved by the house of representatives (Tweede Kamer), the law is ordinarily first to be approved by the members of Staten-Generaal, before it would then be voted for by the senate (Eerste Kamer). And whilst the Staten-Generaal sees no proof or urge for this law, the minister of justice tries to push the law thru without approval of the Staten-Generaal by making it urgent. Let’s say a big NO to this!

Meanwhile, when we scream for the justice of police violence, not only the government is willing to give police more power, also BOA’s (the ones who are even too stupid for the police academy) are protesting for more weapons. And it will even happen!

Yet, no headlines again about this law. Well, we’ll not be quiet. We won’t allow our next generations to be forced to swallow these demeaning acts. We do not want to deal with this current form proactive policing, proved to lead towards ethnic profiling. Proper monitoring of proactive policing and really acting upon discrimination is a request!

Let’s not let the contrary happen! Inform yourself, inform others, in the times that the so called democracy is under heat by measurements taken by false information, in times that protests can be cancelled by court, that the big media fully ignores a forceful law which effects all of us.

Let us unite, raise our voices and demand a stop to this police law proposal and make sure that they say NO!
