Radical Sunday School: Emotional Labour: Education, Support, and Self-care

Sunday June 29, 2025, Radical Sunday School: Emotional Labour: Education, Support, and Self-care. From 18:00 till 20:00.Managing emotions, both our own and other’s, is hard work. We live in a world that expects many people to keep their emotions bottled up, to cater to the feelings of others and to stay calm and patient in the face of oppression.

Even among activists and anarchists, there is a lot for us to learn: Why does so much emotional labour happen behind the scenes? How can we set and respect boundaries? How do we consider the invisible work done by others? How can we create a supportive environment together?

In this session we will talk about topics such as what emotional labour is, our experiences with emotional labour, and the issues that come along with it. […Lees verder]

Radical Sunday School: Living In a Non-Normative Body: When your body doesn’t fit within society’s standards

Sunday June 22, 2025, Radical Sunday School: Living In a Non-Normative Body: When your body doesn’t fit within society’s standards. From 18:00 till 20:00.What does it mean if your body doesn’t fit the capitalist standards? What are those standards? How do they impact our personal lives? And how does that translate to the standards raised in our social movements?

How mutual can mutual aid be if it is only accessible to people who fit within those boxes?

During this session of Radical Sunday School, there will be a space to talk about peoples’ own personal experiences, realities, and expectations put upon them in regards to their body, and the margins they exist in. We will be looking at this topic through an intersectional lens and discuss ways to exist within our own right! […Lees verder]

Radical Sunday School: Anarchism 101: Worldbuilding?

Sunday June 15, 2025, Radical Sunday School: Anarchism 101: Worldbuilding? From 18:00 till 20:00.This week at Radical Sunday School, we’re getting back to an old favorite: Anarchism 101! We’ll be talking with a long time anarchist organizer from the Vrije Bond about some tricky questions, like:
– Why is the world the way it is?
– What does ‘materialism’ mean and what do anarchists think of it?
– How do we build power? Do we want to?
– How do we change the world by working together?

This isn’t going to be some stuffy theoretical lecture – we’re going to focus on how our experiences have shaped us, and see how by working together, we can materially build the world we want to live in! Of course there can be plenty of disagreements, but always in the spirit of learning from each other. By the end, we hope everyone leaves with just a few more tools to bring into their politics, their activism, and maybe even their taste in music? […Lees verder]

Radical Sunday School: Open Session, New World in the Shell of the Old

Sunday May 25, 2025, Radical Sunday School: Open Session, New World in the Shell of the Old. From 18:00 till 20:00.There’s an old anarchist slogan that says we want to “build a new world in the shell of the old”, but what does that really mean?
In this open session of Radical Sunday School, we want to invite you all to reflect with us a bit on this very question. The old slogan suggests that we can establish positive social change today by building alternative systems and practices within the existing capitalist structures of society, rather than waiting for the revolution to happen.
Yes, sometimes this can mean adopting some of the values and practices from the very system we wish to dismantle. Are there any redeeming qualities worth preserving? If so, how can we keep these elements from the old system without inheriting its flaws? How can we make to avoid becoming the same thing we are trying to destroy?
All this and more! Both new and old faces are welcome! […Lees verder]

Radical Sunday School: Class Reductionism and Intersectionality, how many fights does the Left have?

Sunday May 18, 2025, Radical Sunday School: Class Reductionism and Intersectionality, how many fights does the Left have? From 18:00 till 20:00.Over the past years, I’ve heard several different opinions about the two concepts in this title. I’ve heard people say that an intersectional approach is, by definition, what the Left should represent. On the other hand, others claim that, similarly, by definition, the Left should focus only on class, and even though other forms of oppression are unfortunate as well, the “class struggle” will actually solve them, too, or someone else should deal with those issues. A popular leftist critique of intersectionality is that it became co-opted by liberals, and as such, leftists can definitely not use it in its current form.

But what do intersectionality and class even mean, and how are they related to what we call the “Left”? Bring your hot takes on the topic!

Radical Sunday School: Aging, Death, and Body Horror

Sunday May 11, 2025, Radical Sunday School: Aging, Death, and Body Horror. From 18:00 till 20:00.What are the true horrors of aging? Is it growing older? Your body and mind failing? Or is it the looming prospect of death itself? We desperately try to hold on to our youth, it seems. And what do you expect if we are incessantly told by capitalist society that youth equals beauty, vitality, and desirability…? Is the true horror of aging not the system that creates and exploits these vulnerabilities?

Let’s revolt against this system together! Against ageism, exploitation and these expectations! At this Radical Sunday School session, we discuss our own personal experiences, realities, and fears revolving around aging, death, and our decomposing bodies – all in an attempt to find ways to accept the reality of aging and death, and reclaim our bodies that have been turned into horror.

Let’s explore these questions together and discuss ways to combat social isolation. There will be some space to share personal experiences, we will analyze the issue together and find ways to combat the social isolation we and others experience.

Radical Sunday School: French-English Border Struggle and Solidarity

Sunday April 20, 2025, Radical Sunday School: French-English Border Struggle and Solidarity. From 18:00 till 20:00.Through the years, thousands have waited, often for months, struggling to survive, trying to cross the English channel at Calais, France, to Dover, England, in hope of a better life. They are met with harsh living conditions, police brutality, and state repression… And it’s all because of BORDERS…
What is the situation at the French-English border? How do people live and how do they try to cross the English channel? What kind of policies and political responses are at play that deny people the right of entry? What groups provide aid to those in need? And, what can we ourselves do to help?
Jointly, we will examine and discuss these questions. To set the stage, the facilitator will first talk about the situation at the border. After which, we explore these matters together, from providing aid to border tech to the No Borders movement, and much more.
