SKRAPS solidarity kitchen: benefit Voku supporting Colectivo las Abejas

Monday November 18, 2024, benefit Voku supporting Colectivo las Abejas. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

This Voku is brought to you by SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity). On this Monday, we will cook a vegan three-course meal from rescued ingredients and raise money for the “Colectivo las Abejas”.
The “Colectivo las Abejas” is a small non-profit organization based in San Cristobal de las Casas which works with agroecology and bioconstructions. Las Abejas works predominantly in local schools, where they organize workshops, and introduce small agroecological systems such as vegetable beds, vermicompost, filters for cleaning grey waters, and gardens with medicinal herbs. In this way, they aim at inspiring children, teachers, and their parents to implement similar systems in their homes, in a context where access to water is scarce (especially to clean water).
Las Abejas works in both private and public schools. The work in public schools is all volunteer based and they lack resources to keep the project going. They need support to be able to organize a set of workshops in a secondary school this year and to create educational material.
If you believe in the need of re-appropriating our food production and in the right for everyone to have access to water, please come and eat a delicious vegan meal to support the project!

By doing so, they aim to preserve their ancestral wisdom and actively deconstruct colonial heritage.
In this Voku, we hope to support them in reclaiming their land, and we invite you to join us in this endeavour.

After the dinner, there will be a concert by the band Catsnout who writes about themselves: “hello, we make fun yelling heartfelt anti-folk. Welcome to our acoustic experiment in Joe’s Garage, bring your flutes please!” The show will start around 20:30. […Lees verder]

Benefit Voku for a Sudanese refugee family, by SKRAPS Solidarity Kitchen

Thursday September 5, 2024, Benefit Voku for a Sudanese refugee family, by SKRAPS Solidarity Kitchen. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

We are SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity), an Amsterdam-based cooking collective with the goal of transforming rescued food into tasty vegan dishes, and by that showing solidarity with national and international resistance initiatives.

On this Thursday we are cooking a wonderful vegan meal (yes, there will be dessert) from rescued ingredients in Joe’s Garage, raising money for our friend Mohammed and his family, who had to flee the war in Sudan and are trying to build a new life abroad.

In April 2023 a horrible war broke out in Sudan and it has been raging ever since. The humanitarian situation in the country is deteriorating, making it almost impossible to survive. One of the affected people is Mohammed from Al-Qadarif. He and his family lost everything in the war: friends and colleagues, their homes, their jobs. Luckily, the whole family was able to flee Sudan and is now in Egypt. But life as a refugee is hard. They are trying to move on but lack the financial means to build a new life abroad. We are raising money to support for Mohammed and his family to ease their current circumstances and plant the seed of a new beginning. […Lees verder]

Benefit Voku for a Soup Kitchen in Khartoum, by SKRAPS Solidarity Kitchen

Thursday 20 June 2024, Benefit Voku for a Soup Kitchen in Khartoum, by SKRAPS Solidarity Kitchen. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

We are SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity) [https://radar.squat.net/en/amsterdam/skraps-solidarity-kitchen], a newly emerged cooking collective with the goal of transforming rescued food into tasty vegan dishes, and by that showing solidarity with national and international resistance initiatives.
On this Thursday, we are cooking a wonderful three-course vegan meal from rescued ingredients in Joe’s Garage, raising money for a local soup kitchen in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.
After over a year of war in Sudan, the living conditions are worsening and there is a lack of electricity, clean water, and food. Today, 18 million people in Sudan face acute hunger. The lower agricultural production due to the war led to soaring prices for food and the ongoing fighting makes it difficult to fetch supplies. The situation in the capital Khartoum and the neighboring city of Omdurman is especially difficult. There, local initiatives for soup kitchens have emerged in different neighborhoods. The Sudanese organization “Hadhreen” together with the Dutch organization “Onderwijs Oost Afrika” is running such a soup kitchen in the Elrayan School, where people are being served their only meal of the day, which helps them survive. We are SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity), a newly emerged cooking collective with the goal of transforming rescued food into tasty vegan dishes, and by that showing solidarity with national and international resistance initiatives.
On this Monday, we are cooking a wonderful three-course vegan meal from rescued ingredients in Joe’s Garage, raising money for “Darfur Women Action Group” in Sudan. “Darfur Women Action Group” is a women-led anti-atrocities nonprofit organization founded by a Darfuri genocide survivor to amplify the voices and empower the affected communities of the genocide in Darfur, both in Sudan and in the diaspora. It does this by providing genocide survivors with tools to combat violence, address massive human rights abuses in their societies, and work with others to prevent future atrocities while promoting global peace. Among other projects, they provide education for children living in camps, skills training, trauma counseling and psychosocial support for women survivors of sexual violence, as well as leadership and capacity building trainings for women.
After over a year of civil war in Sudan, the living conditions are worsening, and sexual violence is becoming more frequent. This is especially affecting indigenous people in Darfur, which have been subject to a government-led genocidal campaign since 2002. “Darfur Women Action Group” state “While the world turns a blind eye, we say no to the silent conspiracy against the Darfur genocide and decide to stand firm and make our voices even louder in demanding accountability, protection, and peace.” […Lees verder]
