Benefit Voku for Greek Comrades legal costs

Monday 22 April 2024, Benefit Voku for Greek Comrades legal costs. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

In April 2018 on the Greek island of Lesvos, a group of 200-300 fascists attacked a group of residents of the former Moria camp. The pogrom lasted all night, throughout the city centre of Mytilene. The police eventually evacuated the square but only after dozens were left injured, with Greek flags and fascist slogans plastered across the town. Before this, a group of comrades intervened to help those under attack and drive the fascists away. For this, they were arrested and then prosecuted on outrageous charges. Tonight’s benefit dinner goes towards supporting their ongoing legal costs. […Lees verder]

SkRrRew the Smalltalk VOKU 4 No Border Kitchen Lesvos by ZZW Rafelrand

Thursday 28 March 2024, SkRrRew the Smalltalk VOKU 4 No Border Kitchen Lesvos by ZZW Rafelrand. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

This aim of this evening is to eat together, and do activities that throw any necessities for small talk out of the window, to help you connect with strangers you’d otherwise be too shy to talk to. Together we draw, play, listen to music and have debates. With your donations, we try to build structures of solidarity, near and far. This time we are raising money for No Border Kitchen Lesvos, a self-organized collective that supports people stuck at the border.

Screw the Smalltalk VOKU for No Border Kitchen Lesvos

Monday 12 February 2024, Screw the Smalltalk VOKU for No Border Kitchen Lesvos. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Our friends at No Border Kitchen Lesvos need our support! With cold weather, ever-continuing pushbacks and little support, we need to stand in solidarity more than ever.

“No Border Kitchen Lesvos is a self-organised group of independent individuals who maintain a solidarity structure on the Greek Island of Lesvos. The main purpose of the collective is to support travellers who cannot progress with their journey due to European migratory policies. Through a praxis based on mutual aid and solidarity, we take a stand against border policies and the suffering they are causing.

Alongside providing basic needs, we are trying to offer a viable alternative to the way travellers are treated by mainstream NGO’s, governments, and local authorities, which is often characterised by condescension, coupled with a dehumanising and infantilising attitude. We also monitor and publish information about the ever-changing situation on Lesvos, to put the situation back into focus and to be able to maintain a flexible and responsive organisational structure.”

Alongside serving food, we will also play a game called screw the smalltalk, in which we doodle together. Bring a pen and paper if you want to participate!

Lesvos Mutual Aid & Solidarity Network, “a network of comrades and friends active on the Greek island of Lesvos, with ties to collectives and movements that span the globe. We work to build relationships with people on the island, abolishing dominant norms/hierarchies and the socially constructed boundaries between our communities.
As a part of the broader anti-authoritarian movement, we condemn any and all fascist, sexist and racist behavior. We function through our assemblies, where we discuss topics, collectively take decisions and plan actions. We created an environment based on mutual respect where everyone can take part in equal terms, each according to their ability, each according to their needs. Our actions can vary depending on the needs we encounter and the dynamics of the group. We cooperate only with other self-organized structures, like “Women in Solidarity House”, “No Border Kitchen”, “Binio Squat” and other individuals that are active on the ground.
We as anarchists believe in solidarity that comes from the base and stand side by side with people in need, regardless of whether they come from another country, their age, class, ability, gender, the color of their skin or their sexuality. Here on Lesvos, we participate in multiple initiatives on the ground, all grounded in principles of antiracism, anti-authoritarianism, self-organization and mutual aid, each tackling different aspects of this common struggle.”
