About Lesvos Mutual Aid Network, “We are a network of comrades and friends active on the Greek island of Lesvos, with ties to collectives and movements that span the globe. We work to build relationships with people on the island, abolishing dominant norms/hierarchies and the socially constructed boundaries between our communities.
As a part of the broader anti-authoritarian movement, we condemn any and all fascist, sexist and racist behavior. We function through our assemblies, where we discuss topics, collectively take decisions and plan actions. We created an environment based on mutual respect where everyone can take part in equal terms, each according to their ability, each according to their needs. Our actions can vary depending on the needs we encounter and the dynamics of the group. We cooperate only with other self-organized structures, like “Women in Solidarity House”, “No Border Kitchen”, “Binio Squat” and other individuals that are active on the ground.
We as anarchists believe in solidarity that comes from the base and stand side by side with people in need, regardless of whether they come from another country, their age, class, ability, gender, the color of their skin or their sexuality. Here on Lesvos, we participate in multiple initiatives on the ground, all grounded in principles of antiracism, anti-authoritarianism, self-organization and mutual aid, each tackling different aspects of this common struggle.”

Benefit voku & discussion in support and solidarity with refugees in Dutch AZCs

Monday 21 November 2022, Benefit voku & discussion in support and solidarity with refugees in Dutch AZCs. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

The so called ‘refugee crisis’ has been created by the Dutch government in order to marginalize and dehumanize asylum seekers portraying them as ‘problematic’. We want to expose these toxic policies by giving visibility to refugees and by listening to what they have to say about the conditions they have been put in. With guest talks by LGTBQ+ asylum seekers, organized by the social and civil rights activist Sam Dabat. […Lees verder]

Benefit Voku Punks for Rojava Solidarity Campaign. Music performance with Baschira & Roleda

Thursday 20 october 2022, Benefit Voku Punks for Rojava Solidarity Campaign. Music performance with Baschira & Roleda, music from Italy to Kurdistan and vice versa. Food served from 7pm, no reservation. Music on the stage from 9pm

What is Punks for Rojava?

Punks for Rojava is an international network in the punk community with the goal of providing support for Rojava and educating people about what is happening in Rojava and the ideology on which their society is built. The common ground between the society in Rojava, which is based on an ideology/political system called Democratic Confederalism has many similarities with the ideology of the international punk community, and rejects the idea of nation-states, religious influence on society, dictatorship in all its forms, as well as capitalism. It’s ‘based on direct democracy, total gender equality, secularism, ethical pluralism and ecology.

The situation

Right now, Rojava is heavy under attack by the Turkish state, using chemical weapons and bombing and attacking civilians. They mutilated bodies of dead female soldiers, looted villages and towns and made living conditions for civilians in the area impossible. With the Punks for Rojava we hope to create awareness about Rojava itself and to give heart to our internationalist comrades. The donations will be used to purchase gas masks for civilians to protect themselves from the chemical attacks and to the fighters trying to protect Rojava.
Currently, we are setting up our first benefit in Amsterdam, and we would like to invite everyone to set up a Punks for Rojava night in your locale area. It could be a pub night at your local bar, a punk gig, or even a punk compilation. Currently, we are already ordering T-shirts and stickers for additional donations.
As punks and anarchists, we stand firm against war, nationalism and religious fundamentalism; against enslavement of women, arms trafficking, and in mutual solidarity and support of our comrades’ direct democratic project.

The basic aim of Tameio is to ensure decent living conditions for the imprisoned comrades through a process that would take place within the political movement; thereby taking the material dimension of solidarity a step beyond close family, friendly and comrade relationships, as well as to help with the immediate coverage of emergencies (such as court expenses and bails for the persecuted). Yet, the actions of practical solidarity and the building and development of communication bridges and united struggles between those inside prisons and those outside of it, remain as priorities of the people who form and sustain the structure.

Craig Sutton, the Flamenco Thief, plays Spanish acoustic guitar with a loop pedal to blend modern rhythms with time-honored Flamenco techniques. Western, Eastern and African rhythms has allowed him to connect and build long lasting friendships with people all over the world. He has entertained crowds in Turkish parks, German kitchens, Serbian living rooms, Dutch hospitals, French chapels and so many more wonderfully unique locations.

Benefit Voku for reunification funds

Monday 10 october 2022, Benefit Voku for reunification funds. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

The funds raised at the Voku will go towards the child reunification costs for a Harriet: a lesbian refugee from Uganda, a mother, and community organizer for queer people in forced displacement based in Amsterdam.
Harriet was at first rejected as her sexuality, and problems she faced as a result, was deemed “implausible” by the Immigration and Naturalisation Service of the Netherlands, and subsequently irregularized.
In the months following her irregularization Harriet amidst the COVID-19 pandemic went on to create and build a safe space and community with Phoenix, which has since become one of the largest self-led communities of/for LGBTQIA+ people in forced displacement in the Netherlands.
Earlier this year, Harriet was finally recognised as a refugee and is now trying bring her five children to the Netherlands from Uganda, after years of being separated. We will be present to explain about the current Dutch asylum system and ways people can help. Donations are very welcome.

Phoenix is a self-led community by and for LGBTQIA+ people in forced displacement, based in Amsterdam since July 2020. In Phoenix people can share their lived experiences and knowledge with one another, receive and offer their support and information related to the intersection of LGBTQIA+ and forced displacement.

We organise weekly meetings around peer support, empowerment, sexual self-expression, providing information about LGBTQIA+ health and legal rights, and developing our community further. Alongside group meetings and support, we also assist our members individually through social-legal counselling, service guidance, personal contact and recreational activities.

Rebet GuitarS (Jaap Faber and Charis Konstantinou), a guitar duo, presenting the music of the legendary “Kostis”, the most enigmatic of all greek rebetika artists. 12+1 songs of truly unique guitar duets and black-humor lyrics chronicling the hash dens, prison culture and pickpockets of old Athens. Recorded in 1930-31 on 78 rpm records, under a pseudonym for export to the greeks living in America, research has uncovered the musician, journalist and cartoonist Kostas Bezos as the figure lurking behind the Kostis name, with ties to the famous singer and producer Tetos Demetriades. Rebetiko, the music crossroad between middle east and west from the early 1900’s. Songs about love, joy and sorrow. A musical sub-culture, a music of the lower classes.
