Benefit for Popular Assembly of Lavapiés in Madrid

20150423_Benefit_for_Popular_Assembly_of_Lavapies_in_MadridThursday April 23rd 2015, Benefit for Popular Assembly of Lavapiés in Madrid. Concert with Almudena and Davide. Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm

When the boroughs are self-organized, the State answers with punishment

“No, they won’t stop us”

In our neighborhood, Lavapiés (Madrid), there is always an helicopter surveying the area. It is part of the state of fear and shock they try to impose. They arrest us, they issue fines against us, they search for us in our homes, they put us in jail…but that will not stop us, because our solidarity is strong and for real.

We are facing an increase in the repression from the Spanish government as it was in the Eighties. Activists from different movements are locked up daily (anarchist, members of independantist movements, feminists, communists, housing activists, squatters  …) Nothing new, what else is to expect from the government? Even if that has always been the case, it is true that there has been an increase of the repression. This is partially explained because there is a certain fear from the power of these seeds of self-organization coming from the neighborhoods. These activist movements are steadily increasing and stopping evictions, producing in different ways, creating solidarity networks, transforming plots into kitchen gardens, trying to find and experiment ways of getting away step by step from the usual commercial networks…and that is scary for the power. The power reacts  wickedly against movements, against this solidarity among the oppressed. […Lees verder]

Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Campaign Benefit

berliner-mauer-graffiti_free_mumia_abu_jamalThursday April 16th 2015, Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Campaign Benefit, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm

The life of brilliant journalist, intellectual, revolutionary, and political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal is in great danger. Pennsylvania set two execution dates for Mumia in the ’90’s despite his innocence. Only the international movement stayed the hands of the executioner. Now removed from Death Row, Mumia is once again subject to attempted execution, this time through medical neglect and malpractice. With no history of diabetes, and subsequent to having three blood tests only weeks earlier, on March 30, Mumia went into diabetic shock. He was hospitalized on Monday, March 30, with life-threatening high blood sugar, but two days later was transferred back to the same prison that failed to diagnose or treat him even though he was still very ill. His diet is dangerous and his health is deteriorating. Once again, only massive pressure will prevent his death. http://www.freemumia.com/ […Lees verder]

Benefit night for Pinknoise, a self-organized independent media collective

Monday April 6th 2015, Benefit night for Pinknoise, a self-organized independent media collective. Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm

Pinknoise [https://pinknoise.puscii.nl/] is an open media collective. We mainly focus on doing livestreams of political events, like demonstrations, evictions etc. A recent example is the eviction of the bungehuis, which was occupied by students.

Other examples are the livestreams of the Ubica eviciction, AAGU’s action at Kamp Zeist, and the livestream from the ocupation of the Pier by the Vloek.

We can also provide infrastructure for setting up networks and livestreams. If for example you organize an action camp, we can provide you with equipment and assistance to set up a network and make it possible to report what is going on. We did this for example at noborder camp 2013.

By using free software and our own servers, we give action groups the opportunity to expand the reach of their actions, without having to resort to commercial services. (maybe mention maagdenhuis using youtube for their livestreams -> depending on google for activism is maybe not the best idea)

Since we are an open collective, with not really a fixed format, people are welcome to join in if they think they would fit in. So if you feel affiliated in any way, contact us! We use a lot of equipment, on of our goals is to be as d.i.y as possible, but still, things need to be bought. Sometimes things get taken by cops, or damaged during an event. That is why we are having this benefit. […Lees verder]

Benefit for Toca do Coelho, a self sustainable permaculture project in Portugal.

20150319_Benefit_Toca_do_CoelhoThursday March 19th 2015, Benefit for Toca do Coelho, a self sustainable permaculture project in Portugal. Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

Toca do Coelho [http://tocadocoelho.eu/] is the expression of a grassroots movement, dedicated to improve the world. We aim to make parts of this world into a better and more sustainable place, through cooperation with nature and people. Small scale, with persistence and endless possibilities.

Toca do Coelho stands for a space where people, plants and animals can live happily together. We believe in diversity and cooperation with the surroundings, instead of exploitation. Working with nature has all kinds of definitions: eco-agriculture, agroforestry, permaculture, restorative agriculture, biological dynamic farming… One way or another, it is about establishing a mutually beneficial relation, for us and for nature. Singer songwriters: Tim Loud and Tim Holehouse

tim_loud_joesgarage_amsterdamMonday March 16th 2015, Singer songwriters: Tim Loud and Tim Holehouse. Volkseten Vegazulu at 7pm, then live music directly after the food, between, 8:30 and 10pm. Donations welcome.

Tim Holehouse (Portsmouth, UK) has spent the last 8 years on the road touring his ass off to play his music to the people of the world, playing his brand of mutant delta blues (delta blues played by a guy who was raised on a musical diet of being in Hardcore bands like Minor Threat, Husker du, Minute men and Black Flag). Not touring for huge profits (just enough to get by) or to seek fame, just a pure love of music, traveling and adventure. The archetypal image of a bluesman, outcast from proper society and stalked by personal demons. The defining characteristic of Delta blues is instrumentation and an emphasis on rhythm and “bottleneck” slide. When Holehouse arrived in a new town, he would play for tips on street corners or in front of the local barbershop or a restaurant. Holehouse also had an uncanny ability to establish a rapport with his audience – in every town in which he stopped, Holehouse would establish ties to the local community that would serve him well when he passed through again a month or a year later. Ok these things where written about Delta Blues Musicians of the 1920’s and 1930’s but sums up what i am trying to do now. I travel I play music for music’s sake. It has its roots in the delta blues with my own personal twist on it. I live by my rules and those rules are best summed up by something a friend of mine from Winnipeg told me once. Creativity, Adventure and People. Things I will not do Appear in my own music videos! Have my name or face on a shirt! Sell my soul! I enjoy playing music, if you want me to come to your town play get in touch. Let the good times roll! http://timholehouse.com/

Tim Loud (Leeds, UK), 12-string driven, harmonica-blowing, country/blues wailing anti-folk from Leeds. Since the release of his eponymous debut EP in Late 2012 Tim has been gigging and touring both on a national and international level building a strong fan base with his live show. http://timloud.bandcamp.com/ […Lees verder]
