Aman molli concert with Primi Secondi

Friday June 2nd 2023, Aman molli concert with Primi Secondi. The doors will open at 8pm, and music will start at 9 pm. Donations welcome.

Primi Secondi are an ensemble of immigrants and students located in South Holland. Inspired by the evident similarities of Rotterdam with the maritime and multicultural background of early 20th century Piraeus, they attempt a strictly amateur interpretation of inter-war Rebetiko and post-war Greek Folk compositions.

Orestis Strymponis: vocals
Chris Toitos: bouzouki
Kostas Patsis: bouzouki, vocals

Aman Molli is an open collective workshop for modal music, broadly defined as music following melodic pathways that are outside the two standardized Western scales and associated harmonies. Instruments and Music Styles Any kind of acoustic instrument (Strings, percussions, wind, voice). Many of the instruments used today (guitars, bouzoukia etc.) have even-tempered tuning so the maqams/dromoi are not the traditional Arabic/Turkish/Persian microtonal versions but the westernized adaptations. One of the objectives is to explore the differences. In the same spirit, we add harmonic structure (in guitars or mpaglama chords etc) where possible. On the rhythm side we explore the various characteristics rhythms of these regions/musical tradition (9/8 etc.).

Benefit for Emergency support to Sudanese Families. Performance by Jessie Nokes

Thursday 11 May 2023, Benefit for Emergency support to Sudanese Families. Performance by Jessie Nokes. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Since 15 April, armed clashes of extreme violence have erupted in Sudan, first in Khartoum and then in peripheral areas, particularly Darfur. Two powerful armies, the SAF (Sudanese Armed Forces) and the RSF (Rapid Support Forces) clashed relentlessly with heavy artillery and aerial bombardment. The civilian population is paying the price: deaths, injuries, lack of water, electricity and food, destroyed hospitals and infrastructure, looting and exodus.
The two armies that are now fighting, SAF and RSF, were before good allies against the civilian forces and the revolutionary movement that obtained in 2019 the fall of the Islamist regime, they were the authors of the coup d’état of October 25, 2021 and the repression that followed it, they were also legitimized and supported by Western and regional powers, their diplomacy and the fruitless negotiations of the UN.
The Resistance Committees, pillars of the Revolution since 2019, are continuing their efforts to support and coordinate the population in the affected neighborhoods: they inform the places of confrontation, the points of distribution of water and bread or the care of the wounded, they take care of identifying the dead and missing, they make the solidarity networks on the spot more effective. This ongoing war is not theirs, and as they say, “Fighting between generals is not our fight.”
Presented by the media as yet another confrontation between African generals thirsty for power and hostile to democracy, reduced to the problem of a “humanitarian crisis”, this civil war is also the fruit of imperialist and colonial violence imposed on the countries of the South by the supporters of the economic and political world order, who tremble when the peoples revolt.

The anti-authoritarian collective Ajo Negro is cooking at Joe’s Garage. Come to eat delicious vegan food! Some of our comrades from Sudan, who are currently stucked without papers in Europe, lost part of their families in the current clashes in Sudan. We now try to organize some emergency support for their families in order to cover most immediate needs – whatever they may be – and then see if and in what way we can support with more long-term support. This message goes out to whomever can financially contribute – every contribution is of great help! Also any other ideas or means of support are welcome, of course.

ROSA benefit voku, music with Lasha, the lonely horseboy

Monday 6 March 2023 , ROSA benefit voku, Volkseten Vegazulu. Food served from 7pm, no reservation. Music from 9pm.

We are part of ROSA (Radical Organisation of Students in Amsterdam), a radical leftist student organization at UvA, and we are launching a week of action for international women’s day. We are setting up a donation drive for menstrual products and funds, with all proceeds going to ASKV. ASKV is an organization that provides legal assistance and social support to rejected refugees in the Netherlands. Undocumented refugees are often caught in an impossible position: being unable to return to their country of origin while lacking access to social security, education, and employment in the Netherlands. Undocumented refugees often end up on the margins of society, vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. The funds we collect with our benefit dinner will go directly to menstrual products.

After the food, around 9pm, music on the stage with Lasha Rukhadze, the lonely horseboy. Another visit of Lasha at Joe’s Garage, with his guitar, before heading back to Greece and Georgia.

Benefit VoKu for medical funds and Rebetiko live music

Saturday February 18th 2023, Benefit VoKu and live music to cover medical funds for our comrade G.
Music with Rebetiko Trio: Eirini Zogali (oud, bouzouki, vocals) Vanessa Kourtesi (vocals) and Asteris Varveris (laouto, guitar, vocals). Food from 7pm, music from 9pm.

In a world of exploitation, repression, and authority, fundamental rights like public and free health are increasingly fading to make room for privatization. This is also the case in Greece, where healthcare is translated as a product and source of profit which automatically means that the access to it is a privilege of those that belong to the upper classes of society, while low-class, minorities, and groups that live in the gutter are excluded and treated as “low-level” citizens.
The only solution is to stand next to each other and make steps for the world we want to be part of. A world without discrimination of any kind, without exploitation between living beings, no bosses, and no masters! We support each other against the world of individualization and capitalistic brutality.
Solidarity is our weapon!

Aman molli: Vocal Workshop with Vanessa Kourtesi & Special Concert with Vanessa Kourtesi and Asteris Varveris

Friday February 10th 2023, Aman molli: Vocal Workshop with Vanessa Kourtesi & Special Concert with Vanessa Kourtesi (vocals) and Asteris Varveris (laouto, vocals). The workshop will start at 7pm and last until 9pm. After a short break, concert. Donations welcome.

Workshop: In this short course, we will explore the dynamics of singing using performance techniques. Through group exercises and playful techniques, we will discover ways to relax and refocus our singing practice. Using the valuable benefits of group working, we will have the chance to experience group reflection and singing and explore voice in relation to our body as well. The workshop also includes vocal exercises, vocal group practice and technical and performance guidance. Each participant is asked to bring a short singing piece (one verse or one chorus would be enough) to practice and to play with through the workshop.

Benefit VoKu for Prosfygika & music by Rembetiko Against The Machine

Thursday 26 January 2023, Benefit Voku in solidarity with the squatted neighbourhood of Prosfygika with music performance by Rembetiko Against The Machine. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

“Prosfygika”, or otherwise refugee homes, is a complex of residential flats built in 1930’s to house refugees resulting from the Asia Minor conflict between Greece and Turkey. The buildings are situated on a central avenue of Athens, surrounded on either side by the police HQ and the supreme court, in a heavily gentrified area . After years of abandonment, Prosfygika has been increasingly reclaiming its original purpose as many refugees, migrants, poor, greek and foreigner working class people have sought to resolve their need for housing by squatting the empty flats.

Rembetiko Against The Machine – A session with rebetiko tunes from the 1930’s till the early 1950’s. The period between the 1st and 2nd World Wars had a crucial role in the development of the Greek bouzouki players and the texture of the genre. We are gonna perform rebetiko tunes from each period. Looking forward to see you there and enjoy the night with this unique atmosphere!!!

Statement Community of Squatted Prosfygika
ON THE ATTACK ON PROSFYGIKA OF L. ALEXANDRA

On the morning of 22/11, the forces of repression entered the 7th block of the squatted neighbourhood of the Prosfygika arresting comrade Kostas Dimalexis and then, in the afternoon of the same day, in the 6th block, arresting 79 of its defenders. The media once again did government propaganda.

There are more than 400 people living in the Prosfygika – The community of the squatted Prosfygika consists of about 150 adults and 30 children. We propose to organize society outside the state capitalism. We are the birthplace of the popular uprisings of December 2008 and the anti-monetary struggles of 2010-2012. We do not and have never believed in parliamentary fairy tales.
We promote the model of social self-management; we organize ourselves in direct democratic processes in our general assembly and in the regular and extraordinary procedures. We create and operate structures for living, education and and internal economy. At the same time we organize and participate in the struggles of the oppressed, because we fight until the collapse of this tyrannical and unjust regime. Until the whole world becomes one a community of equality, freedom, solidarity and social justice. […Lees verder]

Lesvos Mutual Aid Network, No Borders Lesvos benefit voku with a jam concert by Annie’s Joy & the Vaxxxines

Thursday 29th December 2022, Lesvos Mutual Aid Network, No Borders Lesvos benefit voku. Food served from 7pm, no reservation. After the food, Joy, Lasha Rukhadze, Alex, Josse and Annelies will play Annie’s Joy songs, Vaxxxines songs and improvised music. Everyone welcome to join the jam.

About Lesvos Mutual Aid Network, “We are a network of comrades and friends active on the Greek island of Lesvos, with ties to collectives and movements that span the globe. We work to build relationships with people on the island, abolishing dominant norms/hierarchies and the socially constructed boundaries between our communities.
As a part of the broader anti-authoritarian movement, we condemn any and all fascist, sexist and racist behavior. We function through our assemblies, where we discuss topics, collectively take decisions and plan actions. We created an environment based on mutual respect where everyone can take part in equal terms, each according to their ability, each according to their needs. Our actions can vary depending on the needs we encounter and the dynamics of the group. We cooperate only with other self-organized structures, like “Women in Solidarity House”, “No Border Kitchen”, “Binio Squat” and other individuals that are active on the ground.
We as anarchists believe in solidarity that comes from the base and stand side by side with people in need, regardless of whether they come from another country, their age, class, ability, gender, the color of their skin or their sexuality. Here on Lesvos, we participate in multiple initiatives on the ground, all grounded in principles of antiracism, anti-authoritarianism, self-organization and mutual aid, each tackling different aspects of this common struggle.”
