SKRAPS solidarity kitchen: benefit dinner supporting the Iku community in Colombia. Concert by Catsnout

Monday September 30, 2024, SKRAPS solidarity kitchen: Benefit dinner supporting the Iku community in Colombia in reclaiming their ancestral land. Concert by Catsnout. Food served from 7pm, no reservation. Music from 8:30pm.

We are SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity), an Amsterdam-based cooking collective with the goal of transforming rescued food into tasty vegan dishes, which are then used to support national and international initiatives.
This Voku is dedicated to the Iku people, an indigenous community from Colombia currently striving to acquire ancestral land. Their goal is to reclaim their territory, and build a space to educate young students and nurture future mamos and sagas (spiritual leaders). By doing so, they aim to preserve their ancestral wisdom and actively deconstruct colonial heritage.
In this Voku, we hope to support them in reclaiming their land, and we invite you to join us in this endeavour.

After the dinner, there will be a concert by the band Catsnout who writes about themselves: “hello, we make fun yelling heartfelt anti-folk. Welcome to our acoustic experiment in Joe’s Garage, bring your flutes please!” The show will start around 20:30. […Lees verder]

Solidarity VoKu-New Energy for Rojava

Thursday September 26, 2024, Solidarity VoKu-New Energy for Rojava. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Solidarity VoKu-New Energy for Rojava. Fundraiser for solar panels in Rojava! For a democratic and ecological alternative in the Middle East. https://www.solardarity-rojava.org/

Energy crisis in Rojava
The Rojava Autonomous Region in northern and eastern Syria has been in existence for 12 years and is a glimmer of hope for democratic reconstruction in Syria. Since its foundation, Rojava has had to defend itself against numerous threats. In addition to the clashes with the Assad regime, the main threats have been the wars with Turkey and the so-called Islamic State.
Now, however, the autonomy project is facing existential challenges. The energy supply is threatening to collapse. Turkish air strikes have largely destroyed the power stations and substations in the region. Electricity is in short supply and is mostly generated by dirty diesel generators. The civilian population suffers from a lack of electricity and water on a daily basis, but agriculture – in a region already hardest hit by climate change – is also severely affected.

‍Clean energy as a solution
But we can do something. With clean energy from the sun in Syria. The installation of decentralised solar panels should help to supply municipal facilities, hospitals, schools and women’s shelters with electricity.
We are therefore raising one million euros for solar panels to supply public facilities in northern and eastern Syria with sustainable electricity. In this way, we can make a difference and contribute to the further development of a democratic, gender-equitable and ecological alternative in the Middle East.
Let’s make a difference together: let’s send new energy to Rojava!

Solidarity VoKu for an anarchist prisoner

Monday September 23, 2024, Free Casey Goonan! Solidarity VoKu for an anarchist prisoner. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

We’ll be cooking to support Casey Goonan, an American anarchist facing 5-20 years in federal prison for the alleged firebombing of a UC Berkeley police vehicle. A campaign has been set up to support Casey, spread the word about their case and raise money for legal costs.

An anonymous communique posted to Indybay took credit for the action in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance and university occupations throughout California. Casey was arrested on June 17th, more than two weeks after the alleged arson. They are being held in federal custody in Santa Rita jail in California.

Casey has a long history of organizing mutual aid in Chicago and supporting prisoners throughout the so called United States. They continue to study and organize behind bars and have already engaged in a hunger strike to demand better conditions for their cellmates. Come eat at Joe’s to show solidarity and learn more about their case.

Come by Joe’s Garage for a three course vegan meal on donation from 19:00, as a fundraiser for Palestine Mutual Aid. After, enjoy some banging free shows! Clowning, music, theatre! All in one!

Rango Starr will perform a synth piece, telling a story of an ancient uprising, in the form of a black bloc turned cop clown hilarity.
Radio Plantsoen feat. Madame Favorella and G.G. Axum are performing a JA! Redux.
A spoken word performance on a video and music base. Inspired by the project Ja! by Simon Vinkenhoog & Spinvis Combo
Zaza is going to do something, too:
‘My Shy Colors Raging Dreams’,
It will be soft-eery and a tiny bit absurd, wuuuhuuuuuuu

Amsterdam BANGS is a politically charged joyride taking place all over Amsterdam during September 19th to 22nd. Get ready for a BANGING theatre and performance festival, organised by anarchists, artists, and activists, to take over not just traditional venues, not just the squats, not just the streets, not just your local Albert Heijn, not just your ING help desk but even your own home. BANGS is non-hierarchically and self-organised: anyone can propose their show, wherever they want, create any workshop or performance, so long as it’s non-commercial and BANGING. Stages are kept behind gates, giving space only to certain voices. We want Amsterdam to be our stage and hear the voices of many! We wish for soft, loud, ludicrous, experimental performance art and activism to take over the city and shake it up! Have the city become our playground.

Benefit voku for Palestinian Family Khaled & Bassam, by ZZW Rafelrand

Monday September 16, 2024, Benefit voku for Palestinian Family Khaled & Bassam, by ZZW Rafelrand + let’s talk about DIY projects (theme: unrelated). Food served from 7pm, no reservation!

THE BENEFIT OF THIS EVENT HAS CHANGED: DONATIONS GO TO PALESTINIAN FAMILY KHALED & BASSAM

Khaled and Bassam and their parents, Ali and Heba, live in northern Gaza. Since October 7th, they have been displaced more than 13 times from their home due to the continues bombing of people’s homes in Gaza. Even the so proclaimed ‘safe’ areas where they fled to have been bombed, leaving nothing left and everything distroyed. Last Tuesday night, the street in front of their shelter was bombed. Ali’s brother was killed. Through a friend who is in contact with them, we hear the most horrified stories come through every week. The family of Khaled and Bassam is just one of many Palestinians who are being displaced, under threat and being killed by the Israeli genocide regime.

The benefit is held by ZZW Rafelrand, a patchwork of communities living and creating in one of the last frayed edges of Amsterdam East, on Zeeburgereiland. Excisting since over 40 years, the whole neighborhood is scheduled for demolition in December 2024. The community neighborhood – ZZW, artist ateliers, Fort Knox, One Peaceful World, Cruise In, etc – will be fully demolished for a new neigborhood.

Since September 2023, we – a small team of DIY film enthusiasts – started following the story of the neighhborhood to create a DIY documentary film. We combine everyday life with community activism: solidarity networks & events, a symbolic funeral, endless negotiations with the municipality, a summer free for all festival, etc. But we also create funky scenes to show the creativity residing in the neighborhood and to show its funky spirit. We would love to take you along this journey and start talking about DIY projects!

Join the VoKu for a delicious meal, a chat, and join to help Khalled & Bassam into safety!

Solidarity VoKu for Memoria Mediterranea

Thursday September 12, 2024, Solidarity VoKu for Memoria Mediterranea. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

“We are researchers, anthropologists, layers, psychologists, sociologists, mediators, and activists moving in the Mediterranean area to critically analyze the borders that limit it, the migration processes that run through it and the policies that regulate them.
In total adherence to the pleas of the families of those missing or killed attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea routes-particularly Tunisian and sub-Saharan mothers and sisters-we want to promote the defense of the fundamental rights of exiled people, their families and communities, promoting, in particular, the right to know, as well as advocating for initiatives in favor of the right to freedom of movement.
The Mediterranean is the space where we are radicatə, particularly in Sicily, Sardinia and Tunisia, places where we operate on a voluntary basis, based on our knowledge of legal, psycho-social, research and reporting.

We believe in building a collective and active memory that is a practice of countering discrimination, racism and structural injustice, as well as a means of narrating-from the voices of those living on the borders-what is happening in the Mediterranean”.

Benefit Voku for a Sudanese refugee family, by SKRAPS Solidarity Kitchen

Thursday September 5, 2024, Benefit Voku for a Sudanese refugee family, by SKRAPS Solidarity Kitchen. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

We are SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity), an Amsterdam-based cooking collective with the goal of transforming rescued food into tasty vegan dishes, and by that showing solidarity with national and international resistance initiatives.

On this Thursday we are cooking a wonderful vegan meal (yes, there will be dessert) from rescued ingredients in Joe’s Garage, raising money for our friend Mohammed and his family, who had to flee the war in Sudan and are trying to build a new life abroad.

In April 2023 a horrible war broke out in Sudan and it has been raging ever since. The humanitarian situation in the country is deteriorating, making it almost impossible to survive. One of the affected people is Mohammed from Al-Qadarif. He and his family lost everything in the war: friends and colleagues, their homes, their jobs. Luckily, the whole family was able to flee Sudan and is now in Egypt. But life as a refugee is hard. They are trying to move on but lack the financial means to build a new life abroad. We are raising money to support for Mohammed and his family to ease their current circumstances and plant the seed of a new beginning. […Lees verder]

VoKu benefit for a (no) border collective

Monday September 2nd, 2024, VoKu benefit for a (no) border collective. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Progetto20k is a self-organized collective actively struggling since 2016 against the border system. It is located in the region of Ventimiglia, on the Italian side of the coastal border with France. It aims to support People on the Move who face the violence of the European racist migration policies.
The collective has the aim of being a horizontal, anti-racist, transfeminist and anti-capitalist project that takes decisions in assembly. This past months it has been active directly at the border for monitoring and information, and in the city campement of Via Tenda, opening the self-organized space Upupa. Progetto20k has been trying to bring forth their autonomous politics in the struggle, working alongside several humanitarian organizations active on the territory.
The collective recently had to stop their activities this summer, but there is always money needed for house repairs and possibly re-starting again after using this break for internal reflections.
Come along for a delicious meal because the only good nation is a donation 😉
