Rights and Duties when Under Arrest, an Infonight by Joke Kaviaar

Sunday March 10th 2013, Rights and Duties when Under Arrest, an Infonight by Joke Kaviaar. Door opens at 20pm

Joke Kaviaar presents an infonight on your rights and responsibilities when you are arrested. Police deem arresting people for whatever reason as one of the main functions of their job and will always look for an excuse to lay charges, and they certainly have no love for activists or dissidents. Whatever the circumstances, knowledge is your best weapon. This evening is all about spreading knowledge about being arrested, and to empower you in the face of Police repression and harassment. Benefiet Steungroep Vrouwen Zonder Verblijfsvergunning

Th./Do. March 7th 2013: Volkseten Vegazulu, Benefiet Steungroep Vrouwen Zonder Verblijfsvergunning, 19:00 pm.

Benefiet Voku Soweto

Mo./Ma. March 4th 2013: Volkseten Vegazulu, Benefiet Voku Soweto, 19:00 pm.
Creating A COMMUNITY OWNED social (and living) space

The housing association Soweto aims to do what the official ‘social housing corporations’ don’t deliver: to provide communities with affordable space for living, working, organising, talking politics and having fun. It all started with trying to legalize Joe’s garage in the squatted PS 28. Unfortunately, that wasn’t successful – but now there is a realistic chance for getting our first space: a beautiful old school-building on the Pieter Nieuwlandstraat in Amsterdam East, close to the Dappermarkt. February 2013 Joe’s Garage program

Joe's Garage February 2013 poster

Squatted social center Joe’s Garage and its volunteers are bringing you another full month of events. As surprise appetiser, we serve an info night about rights in custody. Always useful when it comes to squatting empty buildings, demonstrating in the street and planing subversive activities. Further, you’ll be enjoying various benefits, for the SVZV (Support Group Women Without Papers), Soweto and the Black Fish. Still on the menu, the workshop series about gender and sexuality, “It’s more than what’s in your pants”, this month with a strong taste of Gender Revolution. The film program can be seen as a pretty heavy dish, from the less serious Iron Sky to serious documentaries such as Underground (about the Weather Underground Organization), and The Battle of Algiers (banned film, cult film but so up-to-date). A Kurdish Iranian movie night is announced with Turtles Can Fly from Bahman Ghobadi, an opportunity to discuss the on-going repression in Iran, a few months before presidential elections.
Joe’s Garage is waiting for you to get involved, from the kitchen to the give away shop, from the KSU (Squatting Assistance Group) to the Sunday film-info nights, from the day cafe to what ever you may propose. Come along! […Lees verder]
