Monday 6 august 2018, Benefiet diner voor Jalazone speeltuin project #6 by SRP (Studenten voor Rechtvaardigheid in Palestina). Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

SRPare back in Joe’s Garage for our sixth benefit dinner. Part of our fundraising campaign for Jalazone, a project to support building a playground for the children in the camp. Last summer SRP visited Jalazone camp during one of our annually organised trips to Palestine. The living circumstances of the Palestinians in this refugee camp left a lasting impression on the group. Motivated by what they had seen they asked the local women’s collective for advice. Out of this conversation, a fund-raising project for the building of a children’s playground was formed. Come and join us for a delicious meal and bring along your friends, family and neighbors. It will be a night of good company and great food! Dinner includes starter + main for €4!

Doors open at 19pm with food. Screening and discussion from 20:30. On that screening, David Fedele will be also on-line after the screening to discuss the film with Kumut and the audience.

Revenir (To Return), a film by David Fedele and Kumut Imesh, 2018, 83 minutes, with English subtitles. Four screenings with Kumut Imesh in four different locations in Amsterdam from 5 till 8 july 2018. Big thanks to All Included http://www.allincluded.nl/

David Fedele‘s latest film Revenir is a collaboration with Kumut Imesh from the Ivory Coast in West Africa, who now lives in France as a refugee. The film follows Kumut as he returns to the African continent to attempt to retrace and film the same journey that he himself took more than ten years ago, when forced to flee his country to seek asylum… But this time with a camera in his hand.

Kumut Imesh  –  co-director / camera / protagonist : Originally from the Ivory Coast in West Africa, Kumut was forced to flee civil war in his country in 2004. Seeking a peaceful and safe place to live, he began the long journey across the African continent before finally arriving in Morocco, where he spent 7 years. While in Morocco he worked closely with NGOs and associations working closely with other migrants, providing support and assistance.

In 2013 he met the film director David Fedele in Morocco, and he worked as the translator for the film The Land Between. During this time, Kumut developed a very keen interest in documentary film-making, especially the potential to tell stories from an African perspective, and the original idea to make a film retracing his journey across Africa was born.

In 2014 Kumut arrived in Europe, and was granted asylum. He currently lives as a refugee with his wife and small child in France, working as a webmaster. He is also the founder and president of ACSORE (Actions of Solidarity for Refugees), an association in France that works for the social and educational integration of asylum seekers and refugees.

REVENIR is Kumut’s first film.

David Fedele is an independent documentary filmmaker, traveler, wanderer, dreamer, musician, part-time philosopher and full-time incessant thinker. He entered the world of documentary filmmaking through a love of travel and exploring different cultures, having traveled extensively throughout Australasia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South America. Generally working alone, self-producing and self-funding his own projects, David is particularly interested in exploring cultural, humanitarian, environmental and social justice issues. His films have covered such diverse topics as sub-Saharan African migration in Morocco, electronic waste in Ghana and illegal logging in Papua New Guinea.
In 2014, David Fedele screened The Land Between in various locations in Amsterdam.

REVENIR – synopsis: For years, the stories of West African migrants and refugees have been told through the lenses of foreign journalists. Now there is a story from the inside.
Part road-trip, part memoir, part journalistic investigation, Revenir follows Kumut Imesh, a refugee from the Ivory Coast now living in France, as he returns to the African continent and attempts to retrace the same journey that he himself took when forced to flee civil war in his country … But this time with a camera in his hand.
Traveling alone, Kumut will be documenting his own journey; both as the main protagonist in front of the camera, as well as the person behind it, revealing the human struggle for freedom and dignity on one of the most dangerous migratory routes in the world.
A controversial film experiment, a courageous journey and a unique collaboration between filmmaker and refugee; which is not without consequences.

Benefit Freedom of Movement – Music with Farbrengen, acoustic klezmer duo from New Orleans

Thursday May 24th 2018, Benefit Freedom of Movement, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm. After the food and talk from All Included http://www.allincluded.nl/, around 9pm, music with Farbrengen, acoustic klezmer duo from New Orleans with Rebecca Mac (violin) and Mattias Kauffman (accordion).

All Included is a small campaign organization in Amsterdam that struggles for free migration and sustainable development. We support the migrants’ movement that fights for their rights.
The current developments on the EU-borders demonstrate the power of migration that breaks the illusion of Europe as an island of equal rights, civilization, democracy and welfare(state). We support the migrants who come to our borders and welcome them. The EU has always pretended to be in control of the border security without degenerating into a Fortress Europe. Given the large numbers of migrants entering ‘irregularly’ today, the EU broke out in panic while portraying migrants as a threat and migration as a crime. The repressive EU-deal like the one with Turkey is not new. Other buffer states such as Morocco, Libya, Mauritania, Senegal have had to sign those deals in the past where migrants, irrespective of flight pattern, are kept outside the EU. Human rights are violated outside the EU in return of a bag of money. The war against immigrants is just more visible now because it is clear that the EU cannot control the migration at its borders. We support migrants breaking through borders and confronting the image of the EU as an tolerant civilization. The EU is pressuring African states to stop migration threatening with stopping development Aid: the Velletta agreements. We say: Open Escape Routes! Stop Deportations! Our African friends are resisting these deals: http://www.allincluded.nl/posts/actie-landgrabbing-office-du-niger-in-mali/

All Included is involved in Afrique-Europe Interact, a partnership between African and European grassroots organizations that support free migration and sustainable development. Contacts are mainly in Western Europe (Mali, Togo, Burkina Faso, Senegal) and North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia). Themes are deportation, freedom of movement, land grabbing, corruption. All Included is also active in Watch the Med http://www.watchthemed.net/) and Alarm Phone (http://alarmphone.org/en/), a 24-hour emergency phone for those who cross the Mediterranean. Undocumented migrants in Amsterdam are where possible supported by All Included. Big project coming up is the Migration Route Tetterode on 7 & 8th of July 2018,: a fysical route through a legalized squat in Amsterdam, open for public who will guided by migrants/smuglers. Along the route aspects of the migration route by artists, migrants, activists in form of expositions, films, workshops, debate, film (http://www.allincluded.nl/posts/migratieroute-tetterode/) […Lees verder]

Thursday April 12th 2018, Benefit the Moria 35, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

Soon the Moria 35 trail will begin on Chios! Lesvos Solidarity raises awareness, that in ten days, on 20th April, the trial of the so called Moria 35 will start. “On 18 July 2017, 35 people were arbitrarily arrested during a violent police raid in the “African Section” of Moria camp after a peaceful protest”, the volunteers remember. Still, the policed crashed it using tear gas and arrested 35 people, who were not involved in the following clashed. They highlight: “There seems to be no individual evidence against them. They now risk up to 10 years in prison and could be excluded from the right to international protection. There is evidence of police violence during the arrests, and in the police station.”

Four of the defendants receive assistance from Lesvos Solidarity, including the payment of lawyers and court fees. To support them, you can donate on this fundraiser:
