20151029_Open_Discussion_benefit_dinner_Migrant_rights_in_the_MediterraneanThursday October 29th 2015, Open Discussion and benefit dinner: Migrant rights in the Mediterranean. Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

Migrants coming to Europe flee conflict, brutal political regimes, poverty, and fear. Many of them are harmed on the way either by state or non-state actors and thousands die. A number of questions arise: Who is responsible for harms to migrants in the Mediterranean? How do powerful actors evade their responsibility? What is the role of corporations? What is Frontex and what role does it play in the Mediterranean? What can we do?

Let’s try to find the answers together.

Taste Before You Waste will prepare the dinner, which will be served with a kindly donation for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), treating newly arrived migrants in Greece.

Speakers:
Theodore Baird,(researcher and migrant rights advocate, VU University Amsterdam
Mariana Gkliati, researcher, Leiden University
Pim Fischer, lawyer and advocate for the Wij Zijn Hier group
Yasmine Soraya, Indonesian Migrant Workers’ Union (IMWU)

Thousands of animals in Indonesia live sad lives. They are often chained, caged, neglected, tortured and abandoned. JAAN is a non-profit organization that strives to reduce their suffering and provide them better living conditions. They believe that no animal deserves cruelty and no wild animal should spend its life in captivity.

Tonight, some members of the organization will join us and gives us more information about the ongoing campaigns and their work in Indonesia.
JAAN operates solely on donations from individuals and does not receive any financial support from the government so all the benefit from the evening will go to support them on their work.

Solidarity is for white women. A discussion about feminism and intersectionality

we can all do it

Friday November 15th 2013. Solidarity is for white women. A discussion about feminism and intersectionality. 6:30pm

In her book ‘Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center,’ Bell Hooks gives one simple definition for feminism: ‘[it] is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression.’

While most feminists can agree on the first two: ending sexism and sexist exploitation, there has been a lot of debate about the different types of oppression which are not taken into consideration by some types of feminism. A lot of debate around the question Is solidarity just for white middle-class highly educated white women? […Lees verder]

In the context of an everyday struggle against the existent, and aiming at the diffusion of factual solidarity with anarchist prisoners in the Greek dungeons, members of Contra Info [http://contrainfo.espiv.net/] translation counter-information network will carry out a series of events in various European cities, spreading information on cases of imprisoned comrades.

We want to make these gatherings an opportunity to strengthen the antagonist infrastructure of counter-information, to extend and multiply the solidarity gestures with our brothers and sisters behind bars, and to promote direct action and subversive praxis.

On Friday, April 12th, 2013, we meet at Joe’s Garage in Amsterdam. There will be a collective vegan kitchen at 7pm and at around 8pm we’ll start the talking. We are looking forward to your presence and invite you to share your ideas so as to find a common perspective towards the destruction of all prisons and the system that maintains them.

Stay tuned for upcoming events in other European cities.

Bee-movie night, Sun April 15th

Sunday, 15th of April, 8pm Vanishing of the bees. Little bee. Big story.

Honeybees have been mysteriously disappearing across the planet, literally vanishing from their hives.

Known as Colony Collapse Disorder, this phenomenon has brought beekeepers to crisis in an industry responsible for producing apples, broccoli, watermelon, onions, cherries and a hundred other fruits and vegetables. Commercial honeybee operations pollinate crops that make up one out of every three bites of food on our tables.

Benefiet Huurdersvereniging
