Benefit Voku for All4All, Utrecht

Monday 11 March 2024, Benefit Voku for All4All, Utrecht. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

We are a crew of former members of ‘Foodbank Maastricht’, where food is regularly rescued from being thrown away, redistributed, and transformed into vegan three-course meals. Foodbank saves hundreds of kilos of food weekly and feeds hundreds in Maastricht.
On this Monday, we are cooking a wonderful three-course vegan meal from rescued ingredients in Joe’s Garage, raising money for All4All foundation in Utrecht.
The All4All Foundation believes that everyone is equal and that there should be more contact between undocumented migrants, asylum seekers, Dutch people and everybody else. Institutional projects for creating contact between migrants and Dutch people are often based on an unequal relationship, in which the migrants are seen as the ones to be helped. On the contrary, the projects of the All4All Foundation encourage exchange between Dutch people and newcomers, so that they can get to know each other in an informal and relaxed way. We believe that everyone has talents, stories, traditions, histories, and love to share! […Lees verder]

Voku for Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms

Thursday 7 March 2024, Voku for Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Come along for some delicious food and to support the Sudan Solidarity Collective and the Emergency Response Rooms in Sudan.
Sudan’s neighbourhood resistance committees have been on the frontline of mutual aid, self-organised emergency care, and horizontal community-organising for years whilst war has waged throughout the country. In 2023, the RSF, which formed out of militias that perpetrated the genocide in Darfur, have broken out into civil war against the Armed Forces. The fighting between these two former allies, who together perpetrated ethnic cleansing and mass murder in Darfur, has brought another catastrophic episode of violence to the Sudanese people.
In this devastating context, resistance committees have sprung up from Sudanese people from all walks of life who reject the ripplingly violent power games destroying their communities and instead push to support each other through organised solidarity work. These ‘committees’ are not new — they have been doing this work since the anti-government demonstrations in 2013. Through several periods of unrest and conflict since their formation, they have developed wide community support networks which organise responses to the food, water & shelter shortages, as well as organising civil resistance to the warring factions which hold Sudan in their grip. The Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) have grown out of these committees and the anti-authoritarian networks which they built, carrying on their practice of self-organised mutual aid and neighbourhood support.
The money raised from this voku will be donated to the Sudan Solidarity Collective — a Toronto-based collective which provides international support for the ERRs and for the self-organised anti-authoritarian movement in Sudan.

ORCA Fundraising & Integration Voku

Monday 4 March 2024, ORCA (Organized students for Radical Climate Action) Fundraising & Integration Voku. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

After our action on the 23rd of February at the UvA, ORCA is cooking some delicious food for some funding. ORCA is a student group, primarily made up by UvA (Universiteit van Amsterdam) students that advocates for a vision of true climate justice that addresses the intertwined root causes of the polycrisis. We share an intersectional, anti-capitalist, antifascist worldview and oppose any kinds of oppression and discrimination. This includes an abolitionist approach to borders, police and (neo)colonialism. We believe in bottom-up revolutionary organising and a new world based on mutual radical care, solidarity, and a regenerative culture. Our goals include the decarbonisation, democratisation, and decolonisation of the Dutch higher education system, and we reject the neoliberalisation of our society, including our educational spaces.
Want to find out more? Come to the Voku & have a chat.

AUFree Palestine voku

Thursday 22 February 2024, AUFree Palestine voku. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

AUFree Palestine is doing a Voku to raise funds for Palestine actions! As AUFree Palestine continues our actions we need more and more resources, which means we are in need of some moneyyyyy. That’s where you can help! We will cook you some cheap and delicious (vegan) food, which we then eat together in Volkskeuken Vegazulu, which is located at Joe’s Garage. Let’s surround ourselves with good food, each other, and in solidarity with Palestine 🇵🇸🇵🇸 It will be a nice evening at Joe’s garage. You’re welcome to drop by from 7PM but it’s first come first serve, so be quick. See you there!! 🍉

AUFree Palestine is a student-led movement dedicated to civil disobedience, radical education, and community mobilisation in support of Palestine. We stand actively opposed to the Zionist genocide of and apartheid against the Palestinian people. Our manifestations also seek to hold to account the complicity of Amsterdam University College and its parent universities, UvA and the VU, in this genocide. These academic institutions refuse to speak out and actively suppress the protests, voices, and experiences of students who take a stand against this open aggression on Palestine.

Their silence does not speak for us: the students of this university stand united against the violence of ongoing occupation and settler colonialism. By gathering and organising actions, we indicate the hypocrisy of an educational institution that claims neutrality amidst genocide while we study decoloniality in its classrooms. We refuse to be silent while the institutions that represent us suppress pro-Palestinian expression, maintain ties to “Israeli” institutions, and collaborate with and abet Zionist violence.

Voku for Solidarity With Migrants & book presentation ‘The Light of the Beast’ by Pablo Allison

Thursday 15 February 2024, Voku for Solidarity With Migrants & book presentation ‘The Light of the Beast’ by Pablo Allison. Door opens at 7pm with food. The book presentation from Pablo Allison starts around 20:30. No reservation.

The Light of the Beast is the culmination of six years work documenting migrants traveling from Central America, through Mexico and into the USA as the final destination. Since 2007, British-Mexican artist Pablo Allison has tried to understand life and its intricacies, by documenting migration and its consequences.

‘The Beast’ or ‘La Bestia’ as migrants call it, is a freight train that carries goods between Canada, the United States of America and Mexico. As most people who leave their countries travel with no money, ‘La Bestia” represents the only way to get to the USA border, despite this being forbidden by Mexican authorities.
This journey is tough and it can be extremely dangerous for people to travel this way, for a number of reasons. These travellers often referred to as migrants, run a high chance of being kidnapped, mugged, extorted or ending up dead in the desert before they reach their destination.
The majority of migrants that use this mode of transport come from countries with the highest levels of violence in the world. Places like Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala are examples of countries where the situation is so untenable that undertaking this potentially devastating journey is an only option for survival.
The vast amount of migrants that leave their countries are forced to, due to the oppression and extreme violence caused by delinquent groups that dominate entire communities. Violence in these countries is a product of decades of poverty and a lack of decent and fair policies from governments in Central America as well as from US interventions over many decades. https://www.pabloallison.co.uk/

The benefit for this voku is Solidarity With Migrants, an open assembly in solidarity with migrants in Greece consisting of locals, internationals and migrants against racism, fascism, and capitalism.
Our speech and actions are against the war against migrants waged by the states, capitalism and all kinds of racists and fascists, focusing on the anti- migration policy of the Greek state and the dehumanising camp system. We seek the communication between and connection of the struggles of locals and migrants against our common enemies, in the context of international struggles against all forms of oppression and devaluation of our lives. People attending and participating in the assembly come from different backgrounds and are often faced with different forms of oppression and violence (racist, gender violence, sexism, classism etc). Many of us are also involved in political movements, antifascist, antiracist, antisexist and other struggles. We want all to be equal and we also want society to become fair and free for everyone. This is the basis of everything we do.
We are not an NGO nor in another way an official organization so we don’t get funded from anyone and we are also totally independent from refugees organizations, the greek government and the European Union. According to our political standpoint of opposing all these, refusing funding by them is essential.

Screw the Smalltalk VOKU for No Border Kitchen Lesvos

Monday 12 February 2024, Screw the Smalltalk VOKU for No Border Kitchen Lesvos. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Our friends at No Border Kitchen Lesvos need our support! With cold weather, ever-continuing pushbacks and little support, we need to stand in solidarity more than ever.

“No Border Kitchen Lesvos is a self-organised group of independent individuals who maintain a solidarity structure on the Greek Island of Lesvos. The main purpose of the collective is to support travellers who cannot progress with their journey due to European migratory policies. Through a praxis based on mutual aid and solidarity, we take a stand against border policies and the suffering they are causing.

Alongside providing basic needs, we are trying to offer a viable alternative to the way travellers are treated by mainstream NGO’s, governments, and local authorities, which is often characterised by condescension, coupled with a dehumanising and infantilising attitude. We also monitor and publish information about the ever-changing situation on Lesvos, to put the situation back into focus and to be able to maintain a flexible and responsive organisational structure.”

Alongside serving food, we will also play a game called screw the smalltalk, in which we doodle together. Bring a pen and paper if you want to participate!
