Fundraiser for the community of squatted Prosfygika in Athens
The Community – The building complex of Prosfygika was built in 1933 to accommodate refugees from Asia Minor. Thus, in these circumstances, a lively neighbourhood with community characteristics was established, consisting mostly of working class people. In 1944, the anti-fascist partisans used Prosfygika as a shelter against the Greek and British state army; the bullet marks can be seen on the facades of the buildings to this day, as well as the guerrilla monument which has been erected on the front of Prosfygika and reminds us daily of the history of the place. Today, it is one of the largest building complexes in the centre of Athens, which has not yet accepted the gentrification and exploitation that comes from big capital and the state apparatus. It is a place of strategic importance since it is located between two pillars of power – on one side the Supreme Court and on the other the General Police Directorate of Attica.

This Voku is brought to you by SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity). On this Monday, we will cook a vegan three-course meal from rescued ingredients and raise money for the legal expenses of a trans queer refugee in the Netherlands.
R. is a 21 year-old immigrant trans woman from Azerbaijan, currently facing a terrible situation of systemic injustice and she’s in urgent need of help! She’s been living in the Netherlands from 3 years, where she’s been finally free to express her gender identity, but her Visa to stay in the EU is about to expire and she needs to face very high legal expenses in order to not get deported, risking her life back home. Her situation back home is extremely terrifying and unsafe: that’s why she needs to try her best to stay safe here in EU, navigating tons of bureaucracy and paperwork with the help of skilled lawyers. Our goal is to raise money to be able to pay immigration lawyers and for applying to the paperwork needed to not get her deported.
Azerbaijan is an extremely unsafe place for queer and trans individuals: ILGA-Europe has ranked the country as the worst state (49 out of 49) in Europe for LGBTQ+ folks, not only for its total absence of legal protection, but also for the active violence enforced by the state on trans people, which targets and persecutes and blackmails queer folks. Beside the terrible state repression, queer and trans people face every single day high rates of physical violence, harassment and discrimination.
The system we live in makes refugees’ and trans people’s lives impossible: no one should go through this just because they’re born in a certain country, or they’re queer.

This Voku is brought to you by SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity). On this Monday, we will cook a vegan three-course meal from rescued ingredients and raise money for the “Colectivo las Abejas”.
The “Colectivo las Abejas” is a small non-profit organization based in San Cristobal de las Casas which works with agroecology and bioconstructions. Las Abejas works predominantly in local schools, where they organize workshops, and introduce small agroecological systems such as vegetable beds, vermicompost, filters for cleaning grey waters, and gardens with medicinal herbs. In this way, they aim at inspiring children, teachers, and their parents to implement similar systems in their homes, in a context where access to water is scarce (especially to clean water).
Las Abejas works in both private and public schools. The work in public schools is all volunteer based and they lack resources to keep the project going. They need support to be able to organize a set of workshops in a secondary school this year and to create educational material.
If you believe in the need of re-appropriating our food production and in the right for everyone to have access to water, please come and eat a delicious vegan meal to support the project!

Come along for this voku, where we’ll be cooking to raise money for a political prisoner in the U.S. We will also provide the opportunity to write letters to them and other political prisoners.
We will share information on the so-called Budapest Antifascists, who are facing charges in relation to the ‘Ehretag’ (translation. honour day), the largest yearly gathering of neo-nazis in Europe, that took place in Budapest in February 2023. One of the arrestees has been extradited from Germany to Hungary, and the other person is facing extradition.
Our benefit will support Casey Goonan, an American anarchist facing 5-20 years in federal prison for the alleged firebombing of a UC Berkeley police vehicle. A campaign has been set up to support Casey, spread the word about their case and raise money for legal costs. An anonymous communique posted to Indybay took credit for the action in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance and university occupations throughout California. Casey was arrested in June, more than two weeks after the alleged arson. They are being held in federal custody in Santa Rita jail in California and are facing the highest federal charges in relation to the pro-Palestine movement in the U.S. so far.
Casey has a long history of organizing mutual aid in Chicago and supporting prisoners throughout the so called United States. They continue to study and organize behind bars and have already engaged in a hunger strike to demand better conditions for their cellmates.

Thursday November 7, 2024, Benefit voku for Help4Dunkirk (H4D). Food served from 7pm, no reservation.
Help 4 Dunkerque (H4D) is an autonomous collective of international activists who work with people on the move from France to the UK during the winter months. First organized in 2020, the group goes from December to March in order to provide essentials during a cold winter where hundreds of folks wait to cross the dangerous channel with the slim hopes of a better life by way of legalizing papers.
Each day, a group of 15 to 20 people work together to bring these necessities to the ‘Jungle’ – a Kurdish term meaning woods — where people on the move live in a number of tents. H4D offers tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and music (because it universally warms hearts and unites people). We also collect and distribute wood for heating and cooking. We collaborate with other organizations on a daily basis to ensure there is food; we also distribute clothes and blankets, provide charging stations for phones and power banks, and we explain important information about the dangers of crossing the channel. Furthermore, twice per week we run a shower truck to provide 80-100 showers and a mini-barber shop. We also provide activities for children and board games for the adults.
The winters are extremely harsh, and we attempt to provide some humanity and minor ‘comfort’ (if such a thing can be said in this situation) to those who are constantly facing a multitude of violences from Europe. This year we are very low on funds as an organization (costs about $2000 to run the orga for one month), and are hoping you can help donate. You can do so at Joe’s Garage this Thursday (7-11-2024) and also on this website. There will be a short info-talk after the dinner about the organization if you are interested to hear more.
