Benefit for Ringdijk

Monday 5 august 2024, Benefit for Ringdijk. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

Ringdijk is a squat existing since November 2021. Through this time of existance has been home to many, but lately has been hosting thousands of new unexpected guests that we have troubles evicting. But with a little bit of support and help from exterminators we can get rid of fleas and Ringdijk can be habitable again.

Monday 29 july 2024, Voku & mobilization for the No Border Camp 2024. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

A No Border Camp 2024 will take place soon in the Netherlands, from August 21st till 25th. Location will be somewhere in the center of the Netherlands. From their website: “This year we are organizing another No Border Camp to take action, exchange knowledge and further build the movement. This concerns all aspects of the repressive migration policy in the Netherlands and Europe, such as border externalization and militarization, the exploitation of migrant workers, the situation in AZCs, detention and deportations, and the rise of the extreme right…”
There were various No Border camps held in the Netherlands these last years, in Wassenaar in 2019, in Rotterdam in 2022, in Groningen in 2023. A previous camp took place in Rotterdam in 2013. In July 2002 in Strasbourg, the No Border camp gathered around 3000 activists: http://www.noborder.org/strasbourg/

Voku benefit Woningsdag w/ live music: Lyngfarer and Ancient Hostility (anarcho folk)

Monday July 22, 2024, Voku benefit Woningsdag w/ live music: Lyngfarer and Ancient Hostility (anarcho folk). Food served from 7pm, no reservation. Music from 8pm.

The benefit money will go to the costs of Woningsdag, every year while the country celebrates Koningsdag we celebrate Woningsdag because the urgency to get everyone housing is more important than Monarchy. Last Woningsdag, on April 27, 2024, a building got squatted in the city center (Gravenstraat 26-28). We still have some unpaid costs and that’s why we have a benefit.

There will be live music performance as well with Lyngfarer and Ancient Hostility, the anarcho folk night from Joe’s this summer:
Lyngfarer https://lyngfarer.bandcamp.com/
“Lyngfarer is the quiet and pensive stuff that Magnus Nymo from Norway writes. It lives in the fog between medieval lore and anarchist dbeat classics but is quiet enough to be a lullaby. Magnus started performing as Lyngfarer in 2015 and has since then hung out and toured around Europe, Scandinavia, Ireland and the US and UK.”
Ancient Hostility (anarcho folk): “Harmony singing and drones from members of All In Vain and Dawn Ray’d, singing songs about heartbreak and resistance.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g27Bhsxzrvc […Lees verder]

De Drie Duyfjes benefit voku

Monday 15 july 2024, De Drie Duyfjes benefit voku. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

This evening we are raising funds to pay for our legal defense. Come to support!
Gravenstraat 26-28 had been rotting away for a decade. There was a first attempt to squat the houses on September 12, 2021, during the Woonprotest. 61 people were arrested and police brutality followed this squatting action.
On April 27, 2024, on Housing Day (Woningsdag), Gravenstraat 26-28 is successfully squatted. Within a few days, the front gets some fresh paint and the house is named De Drie Duyfjes. Life is back in the house. Come support your local squatters!

Fundraiser for Manipur

Monday 8 july 2024, Dinner with other indias – fundraiser for Manipur. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

For more than 14 months, the state of Manipur in the northeast of India has been shaken by unprecedented violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, leading to hundreds of killings, waves of internal displacement and the rise of armed militias. Like much of the rest of Northeast India, the world has barely taken any notice of Manipur. Far from being an ethnic conflict, the disturbing developments in Manipur have everything to do with longstanding cross- border resource extraction battles, land struggles, the destruction of a unique highland ecology and the politics of wilful abandonment and neglect.

As the violence in Manipur escalated, multiple shocking reports of sexual violence against indigenous women of the state have surfaced. Join us to raise funds for a brave group of young women who have been supporting relief efforts in Manipur since May 2023. The Young Tribal Women’s Network (YTWN) is a community-led initiative of over 30 women from Manipur and its neighbouring states, who are currently residing or working outside the region. YTWN works to provide food rations, medical and financial assistance, along with other essential aid to those affected by violence. They also assist displaced students to continue their education by gaining admissions to government schools in the capital city of Delhi. See more about their work here.

There is a couch inside, there are different types of chairs and pillows to sit on available. It can get quite busy at the VOKU, there might be music on but this can be turned down/off on request if it is overstimulating or because of other reasons. […Lees verder]

Voku Benefit in Solidarity with Barroso

Monday 24 June 2024, Voku Benefit in Solidarity with Barroso. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

In Barroso, northern Portugal, the British multinational Savannah Resources, with help from the State and the European Union, wants to open what would become Europe’s first open-pit lithium mine.

Since 2017, the local population has been resisting this prospective mine, which threatens to destroy this region classified as World Agricultural Heritage. We have undertaken legal and direct actions; organized protests and camps; signed petitions and blocked machines.

The company, the State, and the EU call this “green mining”, claiming it is the solution to combat climate change and enable the energy transition. But, in Barroso, nobody forces us to say that gray is green. Nobody forces us to give up the mountains, the rivers, and the history we are guardians of.

This local struggle is an echo of the global resistance. If we succeed in stopping what would be the first and largest open-pit lithium mine in Europe, we will set brutal precedents for future struggles. We know this, just as much as multinationals and governments know it. That is why this struggle is so central. That’s why we fight. And why you should join.

Come to the Voku, or join us this Summer for the Camp in Defense of Barroso (15th – 19th August 2024). https://barrososemminas.org/ […Lees verder]

Benefit Voku for a Soup Kitchen in Khartoum, by SKRAPS Solidarity Kitchen

Thursday 20 June 2024, Benefit Voku for a Soup Kitchen in Khartoum, by SKRAPS Solidarity Kitchen. Food served from 7pm, no reservation.

We are SKRAPS (Soup Kitchen for Radical Actions and Political Solidarity) [https://radar.squat.net/en/amsterdam/skraps-solidarity-kitchen], a newly emerged cooking collective with the goal of transforming rescued food into tasty vegan dishes, and by that showing solidarity with national and international resistance initiatives.
On this Thursday, we are cooking a wonderful three-course vegan meal from rescued ingredients in Joe’s Garage, raising money for a local soup kitchen in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.
After over a year of war in Sudan, the living conditions are worsening and there is a lack of electricity, clean water, and food. Today, 18 million people in Sudan face acute hunger. The lower agricultural production due to the war led to soaring prices for food and the ongoing fighting makes it difficult to fetch supplies. The situation in the capital Khartoum and the neighboring city of Omdurman is especially difficult. There, local initiatives for soup kitchens have emerged in different neighborhoods. The Sudanese organization “Hadhreen” together with the Dutch organization “Onderwijs Oost Afrika” is running such a soup kitchen in the Elrayan School, where people are being served their only meal of the day, which helps them survive.
